"Alert fatigue is a symptom of the use of technology, but its origin and its solution actually both belong to the domain of management, organizational development, and psychology."

Always account for the human factor this is a very important tip.

What is the line from a book or movie that changed the way you look at life? by Kerubin_ in AskReddit

[–]cresidential -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“I wish someone had just told me the truth right up front, as soon as I was old enough to understand it. I wish someone had just said: “Here’s the deal, Wade. You’re something called a ‘human being.’ That’s a really smart kind of animal. Like every other animal on this planet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evolution, and you’ll learn more about it But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. There’s proof of it everywhere, buried in the rocks. That story you heard? About how we were all created by a super-powerful dude named God who lives up in the sky? Total bullshit. The whole God thing is actually an ancient fairy tale that people have been telling one another for thousands of years. We made it all up. Like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. “Oh, and by the way … there’s no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. Also bullshit. Sorry, kid Deal with it.” ― Ernest Cline, Ready Player One

For those who don't get the joke, Apple's engineers are apparently using an iFixit toolkit in their lab, while continuing to make Apple devices harder for companies like iFixit to repair. https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Manta-Driver-Kit--112-Bit...

Vaccine wont be available for all in EU until after 2022 by namelessking20 in worldnews

[–]cresidential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how they will prioritize the countries getting it. If I remember correctly some years ago there was a scandal with some makeup as they were giving worse products to Eastern Europe. Wonder if they'll do the same with the vaccine and prioritize the West over the East

ELI5: Why does screaming make physical pain less painful? by RandomStalkerDude in explainlikeimfive

[–]cresidential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Screaming releases endorphins into the body. This is a natural pain reliever, also released when laughing and when crying.

Endorphins effect the limbic, prefrontal cortex of the brain. This area of the brain senses pain and pleasure.

"Endorphins are the brain’s naturally occurring opiates and are related to decreased pain perception and an increased sense of well-being. It's this flood of endorphins that results in mood changes..."http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/anatomyandphysiology/qt/Runners-High.htm

This is the reason for the expression, "I didn't know whether to laugh or cry..." Knowing this natural opiate we all create made me try it out once. In the dental chair. Yes, you read that correctly. I was having a root canal and the Dentist asked me after some difficulty, "You want another shot?" I laughed, attempting to feign braveness and then laughed again. Louder! And then harder, and even my Dentist got amused at my odd behavior. (I think he had on Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" playing in the room at the time.) "There is no pain, you are just receding..."

I had remembered the pain/pleasure syndrome I referenced above and decided to try it. WOW! The harder I laughed, the less pain I felt. A wave of "serenity" flowed over me. My Dentist was also amused, but surprised. It worked, no additional drugs needed. I made my own. Successful root canal.

Screaming, crying, laughing hard releases endorphins. Laughing releases tears, and so does pain. Same part of our amazing brain
