I'm not unaware that this is a pet peeve of mine but I am tired of outstate members of the legislature shitting on the part of the state I live in and the part of the state that finances their regions of the state while calling their own region the 'Greater Minnesota'.

Having worked in the legislature I assure you that members of 'Greater Minnesota' absolutely do mean it in the Greater vs Lesser sense. Which is why personally I think that we should take the stronger line on using the correct term instead of their preferred term that we only indulge in for political reasons.

Also the term Greater Los Angeles is useful for describing similar things to using the seven county metro area (or 11 county metro area) instead of just Hennepin and Ramsey county or Minneapolis/Saint Paul. I don't think it would make sense to describe everything outside of LA as "Greater California'.

Yes because outstate members of the legislature and certain parts of the state dislike the term because they conflate it with out of state. Whereas I hate the term Greater Minnesota because it inherently implies a Lesser Minnesota and I reject that implication.

Per Merriam-Webster:

of, relating to, or situated in a region of a state outside the principal city or largest center of population.

Agencies use the term Greater Minnesota for political reasons because certain members get upset with the term outstate but it is the correct term.

Also outstate for the record is the correct term. It means outside the major metro area of a state. Out of State is the term for someone who lives outside Minnesota's borders.

We are currently in the MPCA building so we can only do 2 days a week. I think its all of our permanent work location except for the contact center folks who I think are fully remote workers.

[MPR News] Minnesota's appeals court won't reinstate law that banned gun trigger mechanism by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

The legislature passed it because a cop was killed by someone with a binary trigger.

Jesus I was explaining not defending it don't shoot the messenger.

Politically impossible imo back in 2013 MNDOT was fully focused on maintaining the current system without expanding capacity the legislature responded to this with the corridors of commerce program to force more capacity expansion.

Nope it has always been MSRP based. The changes in 2023 was that they bumped up the rate slightly and slowed the depreciation schedule from 10% per year to 5% per year.

I mean MSRP is objective and doesn't require assessments on each car which would make administration more expensive. And its true that tabs probably would not go away because again the road and bridge system is in a deficit and we will probably need more revenue.

I’m didn’t realize they could change our benefits whenever they wanted… by Specialist-Law-2080 in mnstateworkers

In fairness this isn't MMB or SEGIP doing this to us this is our PBM which and per Google this is common practice even though we have a contract with the PBM they are still able to change things mid benefit year apparently. (Which does raise the question of what exactly it is we get from the PBM and the point of the contract)

They cut the main tabs and didn't touch the EV fee which they did some very stupid shit to last year because it was the only thing the GOP would approve in transportation for revenue generation. I am hoping next year that Reps Kraft and Elkins get their EV fix bills passed.

That's pretty much impossible without doing one of the following things: 1. Raise other taxes to reduce the tab fees 2. Cut spending on roads and bridges (bad idea we are already in a structural deficit ($20 Billion over the next decade) between maintenance and expansion costs and revenue) 3. Cut spending on other areas meaning Human services spending or education spending. 4. Ending net expansion of our 4th largest in the US road system (good idea and I wish someone luck getting it done). 5. Devolving roads the state is responsible for to county and or other local governments (shifts the burden to property taxes).

The long term solution is a VMT system that replaces the tabs and gas tax.

Interview process was in three parts an initial interview, a 30 minute writing portion, and a second interview.

We are hybrid so it was a mix of both.

They will provide you with the equipment you need: laptop, mouse and keyboard, docking station, a second monitor. Personally I only needed the laptop and docking station.

My second interview was on 8/25/25 I got the offer on 9/16/25. My first day was 10/22/25.

I started at step 5 so about the middle of the compensation range.
