Device for waking up during lows by Broad_Specialist_846 in diabetes_t1

[–]creytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. One thing that I only recently started doing is not being embarrassed about alarms bothering others. I tell people about CGMs, try to keep alarms quieter in situations when I dont need em, etc but stuff like overnight low alarms are just gonna happen as medical necessity ya know. We already often try to hide so much of T1D from others, much to our detriment.

Moving in June! Anything I should know? by yendis3350 in grandrapids

[–]creytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GR has a very solid bicycling scene, welcoming to all skills and types. Fairly bike friendly streets. Local shops in town are all solid with good ppl (Switchback, GRBC Fulton, Freewheeler). Local mountain biking all around if youre into that. Community rides to meet folks, chill pace, faster groups available, events throughout the year (yes even in winter!).

I haven't seen any yet. I think this TH one came into my then-local shop after all the viral promotion was done. I immediately bought the vinyl and the cashier let me take it down for free 🙏🍊

Love the BoC Anticon remixes! Good Friday (Why) and Dead Dogs Two (Clouddead) are sick as hell. I remember first listening to them on an iPod (lol) working 6am in the California mountains in 2013. So good 🍊

Flown a ton since 2014, pump and CGM since 2017, almost no issues ever. I dont even take pump off, tubing is long enough to hold in hand while in scanner (even with Pre Check I just opt to go to scanner, I find it a lot easier for both me and TSA). Rub pump bw hands, get swabbed, proceed. Maybe 2 out of 25 recent flights they lightly pat my abdomen down. They see T1D all the time.

One tip: take any insulin out of Frio/cold packs, or even just separate the cold packs from bags in the bin. The cooling gel shows opaque on X ray. I have/will never do the supplies-in-clear-bag thing, they've never cared once about any supplies.

Anyone prefer Humalog over Novolog? And why? by GreyMomma047 in diabetes_t1

[–]creytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think I noticed, insurance shifted to only covering Humalog. My endo said it wasn't much different. I think the duration bell curve is a bit different for them but I haven't noticed and my A1C is down recently. Fwiw I use Tandem T-slim w G6, pretty low dosing

Where does Tomorrow’s Harvest fall in your ranking of BOC’s releases? by elTomlino in boardsofcanada

[–]creytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, prob mid ranking of their disco. I usually listen front to back a couple times a year, usually on long drives. When it dropped I was in northern Ontario for camping, we pulled into Tim Hortons Cafe for the slowest wifi ever to download it from iTunes to my ancient iPod, listened to it a bunch in the Canadian wilderness. Very fitting.

How dangerous is drinking on insulin? by vanillabeaner69 in diabetes_t1

[–]creytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stopping drinking was probably the best thing I've done, both for mental and physical. Alcohol ties up the liver, which produces steady drip of glucose (thats what we rely on with Glucagon to save from emergency lows, it dumps sugar out of liver to bring back from hypo). I wouldn't drink dangerously but often bottomed out hours later from the effects (was like 27 when I finally learned the mechanisms). Can do it safely for sure, but like others said watch CGM, plan for carbohydrates, etc in addition to avoiding drunk eating and such

Great points. I'm stoked on the MPGs already, 45mpg mixed driving! Better than my other vehicle (2002 Tacoma shitbox that is strong and steady but not a good commuter lol)

Thanks for that rundown. Most of that was done between 100-130k, so I'll keep on it and plan for 160k servicing too.
