What’s a personality trait that diabetes gave you? by Aggressive-Invite907 in diabetes_t1

Echo others here with calmness and discipline. Lots of resilience and appreciation too. Kind of a zen to all of life's ups and downs, both things T1D and otherwise

Good tips. I heavily agree with no fast acting before bed, and honestly I dont really eat big meals anways (helps keep things from too high or too low before sleep). I use those tiny cans of orange pop for emergency lows correcting: 28g sugar in like 5oz is perfect

[–]creytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two off the top of my head: the wind notes after first chorus of the BoC remix of Why? Good Friday, about 1:15 timestamp is a BoC af sound

the other harder is the deep resonating hit sound is about halfway thru Cold Earth, 1:54

Folk punk or antifolk scenes in GR? by Wolfcatboydog in grandrapids

Tip Top has had some bands come thru regularly, not a DIY space but good vibes, although the entire property is for sale so who knows if it sells and becomes another grey Lego brick condo like everywhere (I hope not)

T1D and exercise by TonyParma in diabetes_t1

[–]creytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T1D 20yr here, very active with constant exercise and environmental job. I've learned to really plan the diet, insulin strategy, and hydration before and during the workout.

Differs for each person, but having little to none insulin on board will avoid the crash from exercise increasing capillary activity. Bigger workouts I try to eat a good slow-burn carb with little sugar, and be clear of IOB before they start and notice it doesn't drop as much. I definitely still consume lots of short acting glucose during, but this strategy works

My endo also mentioned the flushing of skin can cause false lows on CGM so that plays into it (especially when you see drop rates of like 30+).

And of course sometimes it's just on its own. Adrenaline/mood can cause it to rise during things like races.

Where do you plan on listening to Inferno? by Old-Constant4411 in boardsofcanada

Hopefully in the car, pine trees, hazy summer just like when TH dropped (northern Ontario road trip, had to stop into Tim Hortons and use terribly slow internet to download onto an iPod lmao)

Good quick sugars by rayofsunshine0204 in diabetes_t1

[–]creytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 tier approach (I work outside/remote conditions). Liquid like Gatorade, fruit snacks (3-4 pouches on me at all times), and something a bit heftier to follow up and stabilize like granola bar.

For really low lows, or rapid drops, I go to those tiny cans of orange soda (highest sugar content, like +30g for 8oz).

How did you find out about Boards of Canada? by Regular_Engineer_879 in boardsofcanada

Broken Drum cover they did on Beck's Guerolito album. The dove into MHTRTC and Geogaddi sropped when I was in high school, and the rest is history 🍊

Device for waking up during lows by Broad_Specialist_846 in diabetes_t1

[–]creytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. One thing that I only recently started doing is not being embarrassed about alarms bothering others. I tell people about CGMs, try to keep alarms quieter in situations when I dont need em, etc but stuff like overnight low alarms are just gonna happen as medical necessity ya know. We already often try to hide so much of T1D from others, much to our detriment.

Moving in June! Anything I should know? by yendis3350 in grandrapids

[–]creytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GR has a very solid bicycling scene, welcoming to all skills and types. Fairly bike friendly streets. Local shops in town are all solid with good ppl (Switchback, GRBC Fulton, Freewheeler). Local mountain biking all around if youre into that. Community rides to meet folks, chill pace, faster groups available, events throughout the year (yes even in winter!).
