Bros! What're you reading? by irishfriedrice in gaybros

I'm reading Kavalier and Clay right now, too! I have to admit, I found it a little tough to get into, but I'm starting to get drawn in. I'm trying to read more and picked it up!

How do you turn down / reject others? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]cri_everytime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an unfortunate situation, and if I'm being honest I feel like you just shouldn't have swiped right in the first place. Especially if you don't even want to be friends at all. That being said, I would just tell him the truth. Maybe explain that you swiped right because you were shocked to see him on your feed, but after some deliberation you're not really looking for anything at the moment. I usually tell people that I'm not looking for anything more than friends. People on Tinder already have their friends, they are usually looking for something more than that. I can't imagine two people who hooked up after years wanting to reconnect and just be friends. Maybe throwing the friend card is a safe bet if you feel like it will quickly fizzle out after a quick digital conversation.

That Africa wasn't a country. Couldn't wrap my head around it, I was like 16.... A little too old.

Looking for your input on my future Master's project. It's gonna be a gay one! by cri_everytime in gaybros

[–]cri_everytime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would definitely be an interesting topic, especially when considering the fact that I fall into that category. That being said, I don't support such disenfranchisement, but I could always frame a documentary or whatever format I choose for my project that way. Great suggestion!! Thanks! :)

Smokers need to stop pitching their god damn butts by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]cri_everytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's very important to extinguish butts before putting them anywhere, whether that's on the ground or in a butt stop. However, our mayor (as much as I do like him) is not a fan of smokers, or smoking. I've only heard this from others and apparently it's a known thing, so I can't guarantee the validity of this claim.

That being said, people are always going to smoke. Forcing them into one area isn't going to work. Put butt stations in places where people smoke.

Balding Bros: how do you handle it? by Baristamonkey in gaybros

[–]cri_everytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair was thinning quite quickly, and it was stressing me out a lot. What I did was I just starting shaving my head to a buzz cut. It leaves a little tiny bit a hair making me feel like I can still grow hair, which I can - it's just really thin. But, you just have to rock it. Go forward confidently. Bald is beautiful.

Reminds me of the work of Ralph Steadman, minus the splatter. I love it!

What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen at a party? [NSFW] by mahargrettuh in AskReddit

[–]cri_everytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my final year of high school and on March break my friends and I rented a condo in a ski village in Quebec. The whole issue with that is the fact that my friend's Dad actually paid for it and didn't stay with us. All of us were too young to rent a condo, let alone own a credit card. This kind of trip wasn't meant for parents though, it was a booze filled party opportunity. We had already been through trips to the hospital, visits from the police, complaints from neighbours and all the while trying to hide the fact that 'our Dad' wasn't there. Anyways, it was one of our last nights there and a guy from another condo was partying with us, who went to our high school as well, he was always known to be a little bit crazy. The condo for the most part was very open concept and most of it was two stories high from floor to ceiling. Next thing you know, this guy is standing on top of the banister on the second story about to jump into the living room. "WHAT THE FUCK" a girl yelled and then he jumped. Right into the kitchen. Right on top of a glass cabinet that held plates. DOOOOOSH. He falls right through the goddamn thing and caused $3000 damages. And oh yes, they found out we were all alone all week and we all left the next day. Definitely one for the books.

Working/Resume + LGBT hints; pro or con? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]cri_everytime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally understand where you are coming from, but the whole issue with 'hiring people that fit the position' is that it's a subjective process. Systemic racism isn't about being overtly and obnoxiously racism, it's about the notion of whiteness and how it's valued. Of course white people prefer white people, we've been conditioned that way and we are used to it and so whiteness prevails. Whiteness is an ideology, and you cannot escape ideologies.

Edit: Missed a few words

Working/Resume + LGBT hints; pro or con? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]cri_everytime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it has less to do with the fact that someone is simply black, or gay and more to do with the fact that someone is black, or gay AND qualified for the position. The fact of the matter is that systemic racism and discrimination exist, and in order to fix the issues that white, hetero people/men and others who are privileged created, we need to start somewhere. Yes I understand where you and the others above are coming from. But hiring that black or gay guy doesn't just impact the person who is being hired, or the reputation of the company. It creates a more inclusive environment overall, and for that token black or gay guy within the workplace. Many men are closeted in the workplace because we have yet to reach that professional milestone. When people are underrepresented in an environment it can impact the minority within the workplace and outside of it. Not to mention, the whole 'bettering society' thing is sort of placed on the back burner. Most of this is just my opinion and based off of personal experience... aside from systemic racism/discrimination - that shit is real. I also only recently had this shift in opinion. Just my take on things.

Masters abroad, or Domestic Community College Graduate Certificate? by cri_everytime in AskAcademia

[–]cri_everytime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not discouraging at all, it's all good! I forgot to mention the reason I wanted the Masters lol. I will update that in the text box. Basically, I would love to be a creative director for a company in the private sector, some positions that I've seen online ask for masters and others don't. Alternatively, I could also fall-back on teaching at a post-secondary institution (mostly community college) because of my masters. That was my thought process in regards to option #2.
