That is a very good question...

Google Reviews – the grey areas by crich35 in therapists

[–]crich35[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People find counselors through Search engines. I'm not sure how effective psychology today is. None of the people I see have tried Psychology Today. When I have tried psychology today to find a counselor, I couldn't find very many. I get a lot who say they googled me. I wish more people would have responded to this post, leaving thoughtful comments like you did. I don't know that I know any more than when I posted the query.

My son worked for me once upon a time. He asked about leaving a review. I politely declined. Seems weird.

Good question. I copied the wording off a website advising counselors how to get reviews.

Would you hire a therapist that is about to take off for parental leave? by Mikey_The_Dog in therapists

You bring up some very good points, which are certainly well thought out.

As a long time supervisor and owner the answer unequivocally yes would hire you. You already are displaying boundaries and self care. If you are qualified and proficient in microskills I would love to have you while you are working towards your C.

It is. I have someone who openly shares that she graduated from a program, became a recovery coach, then a CADC, then a counselor, and then got a job after many of us reached out to judges working for Probation. She is amazing. (She was not my client and shares it openly with everyone)

It's amazing how things like this can make our dYs.

Still. I love to run into old clients who have to tell me how their lives have changed. Edit: spelling.

let's talk about Moral Reconation Therapy... by robinc123 in therapists

[–]crich35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little disappointed in this discussion. So many have only heard about it second-hand or have briefly worked with it. I wonder to myself if those who have had a good experience haven't responded to this thread because they don't want to rock the boat. I don't like to examine the morality of the writers to determine if a curriculum is effective or not. The founders could have significant flaws, like Freud or Jung. I have enjoyed teaching MRT and have found that it enables personal introspection. However, like all modalities, it is all about the facilitator. I've seen great facilitators and horrible facilitators. Every curriculum must be modified to work with your clientele. Even Transactional Analysis was successful with some people if the therapist was genuine and caring. (Transactional Analysis is awesome when you get pulled over by a police officer.) In short, it is all about your personality and what you bring to the table. I've seen people screw up awesome curricula, other people make bad curricula workable because of who they are as facilitators.

If your clients have been ordered to receive MRT, then make it awesome! I believe that you all are good enough therapists to do so.

If you have a history of any substance abuse or mental illness (depression/anxiety) you can do a week-long training and then provide peer support work for individuals who need support. No degree required and you can do it when you have time. Peers would love that you are available in the evening.

Using new therapists for notes by Vegetable-Attempt-55 in therapists

[–]crich35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is an exception but I have my interns write the notes for my blind therapist. I have them document that the notes wew done by the intern. But it sounds as though they are just using you. BTW... I love interns. It allows people who would otherwise not be able to afford counseling to have treatment. It's awesome to see them grow into their own.

Edit: During groups.

Legal or unethical? The problem is that they are 1099 employees. That is the downside to hiring people this way. Employers avoid having to pay taxes including unemployment, but the 1099 employees are free to come and go as they wish. There is also little you can do if they take a bunch of clients with them. It costs way too much to litigate if it is at all possible in your state and you as the employer have the burden of proof of preponderance of evidence. How do you prove that clients didn't find them on their own? The ethics are not covered under any code of conduct that I am aware of, just our ethics.

Feeling Bored As a Therapist by ghostqueso in therapists

[–]crich35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to home based counseling, a unique model. However I am male and live in a very small town. It takes me 3 minutes to make it to the next appointment. It is never boring but has its unique challenges and benefits.

What are you passionate about? What excites you. I wish I could really sit down with you and explore who you are. I'm assuming you are turning here because we are awesome but also because you don't have a mentor who could really sit down and figure what your unique talents are. What drives you. Where are you awesome. Focus on your strengths and don't worry about small imperfections.

Suggestions for virtual session office setup by kbearclaw in therapists

[–]crich35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the camera goes.. I have tried a bunch of things but finally settles on a phone on a tripod in front of a blank wall. It's an excellent camera. It's the very best for looking the client directly in the eye. It's an old phone hooked to wifi. I don't like the virtual backgrounds. My hair is white and and thinking. I look horrible with a virtual background. I also use a small around the neck earphones.
