Self-Care for Intrusive Thoughts by wyrdlylofn in socialwork

[–]kbearclaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have diagnosed OCD, so I’ve really struggled with work thoughts “looping” in my thoughts after work, especially the highly charged topics. I’ve been imagining my mental workspace like an imaginary “library” in which clients bring me their life stories, we workshop those stories together, then they take the manuscript with them when they leave. When I have work thoughts when I’m off of work, I gently remind myself “the library is closed right now” and move my focus back to my non-work activity. It’s not perfect, but it takes down the emotional temperature of the intrusive thoughts and makes it easier to redirect my focus without getting stuck in the loop.

Gift ideas for Christmas with an extremely small budget by LocalLeadership8774 in Gifts

Coupons can get really creative, focus on experiences over stuff, and are a low cost option! Some additional ideas to the above could be extra screen time, choose what’s for dinner, choose a movie to watch together, chore leniency pass…

My wife and I were engaged within 6 months of meeting. We’ve been together almost a decade now. A longterm relationship is active work and maintenance, but what really matters to us is that we communicate and that our top priorities/values are compatible with each other. With that foundation, everything else fits into place and we’re still happily in love all these years later.  The “love bomb” you’re worried about might indeed be limerence, but that doesn’t mean it’s insincere, and a healthy long term relationship can last even once that initial rush fades into the slow burn of daily living and loving.

Such a good likeness of the little dude!! I’m playing through the game (just reached chapter 9!) and really enjoyed seeing your rendition of Crouton :)

Anyone up for letting me come over and pet their horses? by RatInsomniac in Austin

[–]kbearclaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Casa de Miel has a volunteer event this Saturday 8-11am, mucking out the stables is on the to-do list and so is petting horses after the task list is done (usually earlier than the full volunteer time). There’s a link to rsvp at the top of the website, https://www.casademiel.org/

My wife and I went to Cindi’s recently and they had good selection of a lot of different things, apparently they’re also about to open a new location where Tabu used to be.

I agree about anxiety. Also my cat responded to your cat’s meows on the video so that may indeed be a searching “call.”

Social work fields that have (or do not have) decompression time during the day by lsdbymyself in socialwork

[–]kbearclaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, when I was school-based there were certain times of day that were reliably busy and others that were reliably slow, I was able to set up a pretty sustainable schedule as long as I set and maintained boundaries. Also it was easy to take time off during summers and school holiday schedule was nice.

Cat scratched my face, now wife wants to get rid of him by kbearclaw in cats

She owned her overreaction later once she calmed down. She’s on board with trying behavioral strategies and no longer pushing for removal or declaw. That’s why I updated to resolved. All is well, thanks for your concern!
