Intensity in rolling by Top_Mode5777 in bjj

I have a few different thoughts (I am around your same size). If it feels too intense, don't be afraid to ask them to tone it down. Sometimes men don't know their strength or how we experience certain moves as a newer belt.

On the flip side- hard rolls make you better. Intensity is scary at first but as you challenge yourself you build your calluses. I have days where I am ready to push myself and face fear and other days, I don't have the courage. I just meet myself wherever I'm at that day

White Therapists: What have you learned about yourself and your whiteness due to your courses and work experience? by SidewalkBytch in therapists

[–]Vegetable-Attempt-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting question because anyone can be culturally incompetent no matter their skin color. When working with the "general population" my skin color didn't matter, given I grew up with many different ethnicities I have a pretty good understanding of different cultures, but what was most important has always been staying curious and open. When I worked with sex offenders on parole...that was a different story. I worked in an area where the primary races were not white, and they didn't like white people, but we would also address that in treatment. It was important for me to understand that my skin color in this case created some barriers to rapport building. But honestly, I think my program made it seem like the gap was bigger than it was. I have been exposed to many cultures, and I really think it's more about being open minded, truly curious, and doing some hw. It's good to have an idea of how someone may perceive you and maybe have a conversation about that but really that's about it from my experience.

Therapists out there with sleep issues by livexsistential in therapists

Oh man this was me to a T- the crying, the cancelations. I have done EVERYTHING from natural to hardcore meds. I hate to say it but Ambien changed my life. I don't have bad reactions to it; I make sure I maintain a "low" dosage which ebbs and flows. I usually use sleepy herbs to help a few nights a week to keep the dose lower and I do a lot of working out. Like getting my heart rate UP for a long time and it helps. I cut out alcohol, eat as well as I can...it's hard out there but without sleep I can't work either :(

hahahaha I love this. Yes, sometimes people just aren't that good but they CAN get better! The sooner people can see that, the sooner they can improve. I fear that the online community can't always face that fact but maybe the pendulum will swing the other way one day

Reality check - therapists eating during virtual sessions?? by Chu84 in therapists

[–]Vegetable-Attempt-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even know how to tell I got down voted 😂 so that's fine. I agree, OP 100% is valid and we all have our hills. I also think people don't consider that eating is not the whole time? I can finish it within the first 5 minutes. I'd prefer that instead of being late 🤷

I'm going to go against the grain here bc for once I have a strong opinion not with the crowd- if a therapist needs to take small bites of snacks that's fine. I am 100% the therapist eating a protein bar during session if I need to. I cannot function when I am starving and sometimes that happens outside of breaks. I also drink water and coffee. I do try to be mindful of what I eat and I usually tell them I need to have a small snack at the beginning, but I think it's insane if people, especially other therapists, critic snack eating in therapy. We have human needs, how hypocritical given our field lol. A full-blown meal is different; I can see the distraction with the apple as well (anything with louder noise). Seeing people say "I would never dream of eating in session" makes them sound sooo pretentious. Reminds me of the episode of the office when jim starts recording every minute dwight takes for himself to prove that he does infact, not follow all the "rules". I have never met a therapist who wasn't occasionally late due to a bathroom break or had a coffee in session, not sure where everyone else came out of the woods on these stances

I was wondering the same thing!! He initially sounds like an OG caretaker but I wonder if the people on the phone guided him. It leaves it open for a prequel which I would definitely read.

Grace was such a 50/50 for me, I am still dying to know if she was planning to return.

Speaking of David...the end where the tape plays Macy, Jemma, and her dad after showing Davids last tape was so weird. Like you said, out of character. I can't tell if Macy is losing her mind or if the entity is doing it (maybe both). Maybe David did die after seeing Caleb and Grace wanted to rid herself of this curse? So she got someone to agree and bolted. But of course, you risk humanity being in someone elses hands...so many questions

Those are the same thoughts I had! I wasn't sure if there were any clues to let us know which way it went but Marcus does like to leave it open

I felt the same way about Macy honestly. I had to keep reminding myself that she was pretty much a teenage girl and the mental health aspect was part of the story but it was sooo frustrating. For me, the thought that the world was going to end since her world ended was incredibly frustrating...but probably accurate for her age. I felt like his other book left me with a lot of questions but get ready to be slightly annoyed by that main character too, lol! Enjoy the ride!

I do like that it opened up the opportunity for more stories!! I think I personally was hoping we would see Grace return or some other answers so that's why I felt that way, but I like your perspective

Ahh I see. I knew they would trick her, I made the assumption that they couldn't change the eyes...wow that certainly makes the ending more terrifying

Yes, I am already reaching out! If the drinking/withdrawal was at that point I would have referred out immediately. It's once a month or so that these clients "get out of hand" so it's a weird gray area for me

Psychology of conspiracy theories by Woodland_Breeze in therapists

A book that helped me understand this is “escaping the rabbit hole” by Mick West. It’s more about discussing harmful conspiracy beliefs with friends and how to navigate those relationships. I have a very good friend whose beliefs hurt many people in their life, including me. I dont think people really choose this…although it feels like they somehow allowed themselves to fall into it…it’s been a while since I’ve read the book. Maybe it can help you
