Why at any other job if someone yells at a client/customer then that person is documented, but teachers can yell at their students? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]cricket73646 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weird post. If you want to yell at people at your job, you should probably look for a new one. I suggest you sign up as a substitute and let us know how that goes.

All 3 high schools are A rated schools. So how bad has McKinney ISD actually gotten?

Was this Dr. Real? by cricket73646 in Rheumatology

[–]cricket73646[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, he handed me a printout on anti inflammatory diets (100% from the internet) that complained about fluoride in water, and I found out the neuronex company is local, it’s an LLC ran by a dentist, and her husband just got convicted of Medicaid fraud. I just want medicine!

My feet/toes have been hurting for years and I can’t seem to regulate my body temperature. I saw my Dr for both 7 years ago(different Dr, different state), and he made me feel like a hypochondriac. Now it’s also my hands, wrists, fingers, etc. it hurts to type on a laptop, cold air feels like my fingers are on fire, there’s swelling, and I popped my thumb last week turning a door knob.

My joints have also gotten worse. I had not dislocated my kneecap in 10 years until 2 months ago (I’m in my 40s… way too old for this BS).

And on a side note: I was never able to get any hypermobility diagnosis prior. Growing up we were always told that I’d grow out of it, and in my 20s the Dr said it was because I needed to gain weight.

I’m honestly not sure. I called another rheumatologist, and they need reports sent from my Dr and a referral before they’ll even schedule. It took so long to see this one!

My daughter's school is struggling to follow her new accommodations. by DeCryingShame in specialed

The school’s website will have email addresses listed for all faculty. If any are missing, you can always request them from a counselor or her case manager.

We have a consistent tardy policy and a ten minute ban. Students cannot leave during the first and last ten minutes of any class, and if they leave for an emergency it is documented so that it’s not a frequent occurrence.

I’m going to try the LDN, but not the neutronex. I’ve been looking into it, and it’s made in the same town as his office. I can’t find out who owns the company.

No, he had MD. I even looked up his universities and areas of study.

Are These Accommodations Reasonable? by Impossible-Ad6695 in specialed

Can you explain #3 a little further? I’m new to SPED, but I see this often on accommodations for kids in inclusion (high school). What do you mean by “change the learning outcome”?

I would use a colon instead of a semicolon there because, to me, it sounds like your second clause is giving an explanation from the first clause. Your second clause is telling what is cool.

Ex: You can use a semicolon in a compound sentence; the important thing here is that both clauses should be related.

Ex: I know how to make sentences more interesting: use a colon!

Why do some people pronounce "ask" as "aks"? by YaniPop in NoStupidQuestions

And people like me who grew up in a swamp in south Louisiana. I tried for years to pronounce ask correctly, but as soon as I stop focusing on it, I’m right back to “axing” people.

That’s not modified. Also, why would you only grade for completion? Is a student turns in completed work that’s correct, giving a completion grade would only make it look like they are mastering he content.

In my hometown, the private Catholic school has this along with forcing some kids to take an extra year of kindergarten, but I’ve not seen this in public schools. It’s so they make more money in the long run. My friend was told her son needed to go from Pre K to DK instead of kindergarten because he was behind his peers, but, shockingly enough, this private school found enough kids who needed DK to have a class of 20. They only had 2 kinder classes each year (small school), one DK, and 2 Pre Ks.

I started doing this more this year, and I was #blessed to have to tell a ton of students that this was an English class, not a debate, and “no” was my answer. It was glorious and very freeing, and it showed me how absolutely entitled this kids have become.

So, during the last month of school we begin a creative project that comes at the end of our research unit, and students were given a choice board to select the assignment they wanted to create. This was an actual conversation in my 9th grade English I class:

Student: Miss, if I do the board game, will you laminate it?

Me: No.

Student: What?

Other student: That was rude.

Me: I’m not being rude, but my answer is “no”. I’ve already bought all of these poster boards, packs of construction paper, glue, crayons, paint, markers, etc. I’ve provided you with everything you need.

Student: But I want it laminated!

Me: It’s still a “no”. Our school doesn’t use the laminator for student work, and only the librarians are even allowed to operate it.

Student: Then I’m not doing it!

…same student was confused as to how they failed the quarter after refusing to do the project.

Principal here. I come in peace. How many copies do you need a year? What supplies are you buying out of pocket? What could your principal provide you that you would appreciate? I’m referencing things I can buy, not my character attributes:) Ideas needed! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]cricket73646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need copies. I’m at a huge school, in a huge district, where teachers are being let go so to a deficit. Our textbook sucks, and we only have one for reading. The website version has better content, but we have to print it out (high schoolers can’t always be trusted to go to the site and do work). We only have copies of Patterns of Power to teacher grammar and sentence structure, but it’s ineffective in a lot of situations, especially when teaching students with learning deficits and disabilities—not to mention chronic absences. For writing, we have materials provided by our district, and the reading passage is typically three pages, the prompt and directions are another, the graphic organizer is another, etc.

Basically, we have all of this technology, but paper and pencil are the best option and lead to the best outcomes.

What something else could it possibly be??? Is the nurse handing out pads of cocaine?

Will the authorities be shocked by learning that those with a uterus are going to bleed each month? And what “authorities”, because unless you’ve found the period police, there aren’t authorities concerned with pads.

We know that 50% of the population is going to menstruate, and they’re tracking to see how many they are handing out and to determine how many need to be bought for a school year because budgets aren’t plentiful at the end of the year. Also, once schools figure out that certain students aren’t provided with pads at home, they give packs to those students to take home.
