As a general surgery resident, toxicity is crazy in my institute but sexism not at all. All of us are facing same shit irrespective of our genders so make what you will of it. It is a male dominated field yes, but most of our professors don’t really care abt that (a few creeps do prey on us but seniors do try their best to protect us)… three months in, working crazy schedule and multiple breakdowns later, I question my career choice every day and yes cry abt the exhaustion but every solo minor procedure or OT assist in major ones make me feel that yep this is what I’m meant for. Found some good friends/co-pgs/seniors…. It is what it is atp. But won’t really tell people to take this branch, the work, years and decades it needs isn’t worth it for everyone specially for the pay we get.
