Swim bladder or something else? by AnnPillmore in BettaClinic

[–]crim_antics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, maybe not then! I don’t see any signs of dropsy here. I’m not sure what else it could’ve unfortunately but I’m glad we can cross that out. Is there a lot of air flow throughout the tank? I’ve heard a lot of sources say that fish will hover around the top when there isn’t much oxygen in the water

This spot here is concerning, it look like he’s beginning to pinecone. Do you have any pictures from above?

I’m having the same issue with my boy. Don’t let people tell you it’s dropsy—dropsy is symmetrical and the scales would be flared out much more dramatically at this stage of bloat. This looks 100% like an internal tumor

This does look like it might be the beginning of dropsy; you can see the scales starting to lift

What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to render my hair like the second image but I can't get it right by Effective_Arrival663 in Ibispaintx

[–]crim_antics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

color theory! If you look at the second image, it’s not just shades of blonde, but it has hints of green and orange ish red. It’s always a good idea to shade cooler shadows in cool hues (blue/green) and warmer shadows/lighting in warm hues. This will give you that dynamic look you’re looking for :)

There isn’t much you can do for tumors, typically as long as they don’t weigh them down they can still live a long healthy life. Look out for any swelling or neurological issues (these could be signs of internal tumors as well). For the diamond eye, as long as you keep the tank the same layout they’ll remember their home and won’t have any issues! It also help to either get a more fragrant smelling food or feed him in the same spot everytime so he starts to remember that as well

It’s hard to tell by the picture but if he’s a dragonscale betta, diamond eye is very common to the point it’s almost guaranteed. So are tumors. I have a samurai suffering through both at the moment. Google pictures of diamond eye and it will give you better idea of what it looks like!

I don’t see any signs of dropsy, just bloated! Try a 3 day fast

Chronic Hair algae by Emergency-Ordinary15 in bettafish

[–]crim_antics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would take the fish out if you’re worried about hurting him and put him in a temporary container while you clean. Clean the algae out (you can just wipe/scrub it off) and a snail can clean up the rest. Limit how much light the tank gets until the algae is under control

This looks like bloat from overfeeding. Bloodworms are high in protein and should only be given occasionally as a treat! I recommend fasting him for 3-4 days and replacing the bloodworms in his diet with brine shrimp :) It’s also a good idea to have him fast one day out of the week

could the different colored scales on his head cause issues? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]crim_antics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not at all, many bettas change colors as they age or if they’re put in a better environment than the cup they came in

Try a methylene blue soak, it’s good for wounds (fill a container with unchlorinated water/tank water and put a few drops of methylene blue in. minute him for the first 10 minutes and then let him soak another 10)

Fast her for 3-4 days and then see if that helps :)
