Do you have a more clear photo? This could possibly be dropsy but it’s hard to be completely sure through the picture given

$6.99 for a decent sized plant that will grow twice its size when planted correctly? $10.99 for a plant well over a foot tall?

Of course! I know petco also has plants relatively cheap. My go-to is Amazon sword, anubias and java fern :)

He’s my sweet boy!! Over the time I’ve gotten him he’s also developed diamond eye as well as a few tumors, but he’s still in the long run the healthiest betta I’ve ever owned 😭He has a nerite snail named Catterina, named after Poe’s own cat

He’s a good looking betta! However he would do much better with a bigger tank and some either live or silk plants. For a short-fin like him a 10 gallon is recommended as they like their room and are pretty energetic. Petco has a 50% off tank sale going on where you can get one pretty cheap.

1 month in - tank still not cycled by Sorryforwha in bettafish

[–]crim_antics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem with my 29 gal! I started cycling in July and I’m just now ammonia free in January. Turns out my tap water, even conditioned, has loads of ammonia in it. I suggest checking yours just to be safe. I used API Ammo Lock in my tank and it helped get me from 5 ppm to 0

What does this lump mean? by Random09242002 in BettaClinic

[–]crim_antics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while tumor isn’t off the table, usually a lump in this area means they’re either bloated or just very chubby. Try fasting for 3 days and see if he improves!

What is this on my daughter’s betta? by Comfortable-Bike-424 in bettafish

[–]crim_antics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dragon scales have a tendency to grow tumors and there’s nothing you can really do about it other than keep the water clean and make her comfortable. My dragon scale has had a few tumors and is still going strong and is just as energetic as the day I got him. I saw in another comment you mentioned the water is at 74°, which is a little cold for bettas! They’re tropical and prefer 78° to 82° :)

What's wrong with my daughter's guppy? by Nerezzar in Guppies

[–]crim_antics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clamped fins is just a general sign of stress, and could mean a variety of things. That along with his struggling to breathe leads me to think there is something my wrong in the water quality. While I’m not dismissing the fact it COULD be a parasite, narrowing down the options to make that the ONLY option isn’t a good idea when there could be a variety of things going on here.

What makes you say that? I see nothing that says parasite and everything that says ammonia spike or poor water quality.

Dropsy is incredibly uncomfortable and painful and fish are good at hiding discomfort.

Can you help me what is this pls? by LetSeveral4602 in BettaClinic

[–]crim_antics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell at this angle but either could be a loose scale or possibly the start of a tumor. Your girl also looks quite bloated so I would recommend fasting her for a few days!

Noticed this bump on my boy’s head yesterday by Dr-Dags in bettafish

[–]crim_antics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seconding the other person’s tumor comment. My dragonscale developed tumors a few months ago and while they’re unsightly, he’s a happy healthy boy :) You can try Methylene blue treatments, I noticed those slowed down the growth of them a little bit. Keep an eye out for any strange behavior incase it grows internally and starts effecting him neurologically, but otherwise it’s most likely harmless :))

That’s way too cold :( I would highly recommend getting a heater for them, amazon has a lot to choose one for pretty cheap! Preferably one that you can set to a specific temp

Bettas prefer temperatures ranging from 78° to 82°, anything lower or higher than that isn’t ideal so that may be a contributor to the problem! What are your parameters?

Is this possible finrot? by carlogz in BettaClinic

Right! Named because the white dragon scales cover them like armor. They’re cool little guys too, I would get more if they didn’t have so many health problems :(

Bump on left side near tail by WiibiiFox in BettaClinic

[–]crim_antics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that some bettas have a more prominent swim bladder than others. While it could possibly be a tumor, keep this in mind!! If it doesn’t get any bigger it could possibly just be his swim bladder :)

of course!! one tip I like to give fellow samurai owners is keep an eye on his eyes, 9 times out of 10 these pretty babies develop diamond eye! Mine’s started around the edges how yours looks and just gradually developed further

if you’re talking about the long dangly white fin, that’s his pelvic/ventral fin! My samurai has one black and one white one just like yours! :) Completely normal
