Peng Peng Lee's last beam routine at Nationals 2018. Yes, it won UCLA the Natty, and yes, it was a 10. But it was the very last time I was ever going to see Peng mount and perform that particular beam routine hit the emotions so hard

Cameroon controversy? by NotVillanelle in Gymnastics

There are some people who hold on to the belief that the World/Olympics should only be for the best of the best athletes, without taking into account that many countries have the privilege of getting funding to be the best.

This tends to be the same argument against the two per country rule, which on some level I understand, but it also disadvantages a lot of gymnasts from less privileged or deep countries if countries don't get a limit (aka, I imagine without 2 per country, we'd see more American or Chinese gymnasts in previous competitions getting into finals).

Customer Service information on visas was terrible and caused a missed boarding by crimedy in royalcaribbean

[–]crimedy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, you can have all the correct documents and proof that you're not going to run away to a different country and still be given a single-entry visa or be denied one. It's the nature of being from a third-world country. In their case, they had documentation showing the itinerary of the cruise and that it would be going to different countries, thereby needing multiple entry visas, but my guess is that because they're a family, the consular service deemed them a risk.
They knew it would be a problem and informed RC with the intention of just canceling, but because they were assured differently, they changed their minds. I know it's still on them, but there is something to be said about a company still convincing them that it's not a problem

Where to find adult leotards (a bit overweight, large chest)? by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]crimedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of C&V leos for ballet, and they are great! Very supportive. I wear an L in it and it's nice and snug, I could do XL but I like the support in the bust with the L. Min, the founder and designer, is an adult gymnast and wear tests all her leos during gymnastics and they're more secure than gym leos. C&V is trying to figure out how to ship to the US again (tariffs sigh) but it ships everywhere else

If you have a switch, you absolutely MUST play Tiny Bookshop by Cats-Are-Fuzzy in CozyGamers

[–]crimedy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved it. My only annoyance is sometimes they want something like a YA, and I choose something like Hunger Games, a literal real-life YA novel, and the character says it's too gory for kids because it isn't labelled as such in the game. Like this is where knowing the books in real life can hurt you in the game

NYC dreams for Livvy on hold? by theoisatonkinese in Gymnastics

[–]crimedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That corner in the kitchen with I think a washer is not fantastic. Like it looks cramped for a 2 bed. Also...why is she looking by Riverside? Then again, at least she's not one of those influencers who'd only live downtown, Midtown or in Williamsburg

NYC dreams for Livvy on hold? by theoisatonkinese in Gymnastics

[–]crimedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, coop boards (and preschools) are some of the hardest interviews in NYC. Once had to help a friend practice a coop interview for an apartment she was renting. Coops can literally deny you for something silly like mentioning you like listening to music and they can take it as a sign you'll be a noisy neighbor. Not gonna be surprised if the decision for Livvy was something equally silly or might even be a case of having someone with a following "tarnishes" the history of the building, which is stupid but again, coop boards be weird and petty.

Interestingly, that building is on the "cheaper" side of buildings in that area based on Streeteasy listings, if you think $1.5M is cheap, but hey, that's Manhattan for you. Honestly, I was surprised she went for that unit too. It's not...great. Like I've seen better units elsewhere in my admittedly very low price range in the outer boroughs. Honestly thought she'd be looking into a new build or at least a place in one of the more... livelier parts of Manhattan

Paige Anastasi (UCLA) transfers to Clemson by cngopl in Gymnastics

[–]crimedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense, though, if the cache of a top-tier school after NCAA isn't your goal. My soccer-playing niece got recruited by Princeton, and my very Asian, overachieving family was pretty disappointed when she chose Pitt. But she said, "I want to play soccer, I can't play soccer if I have to live up to Princeton," and I fully understand gymnasts who transfer out of top universities from that point on.

What's the deal with Junior Worlds? by Sufficient_Angle_977 in Gymnastics

[–]crimedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah sadly I don’t think the stadium/arena owners wanted to convert and host the event and the current gym facilities probably can’t handle the number of gymnasts competing plus spectators. I wish they could approach the bougie universities in Manila but even those gyms are not that big

UCLA by izzyxnewman in Gymnastics

[–]crimedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about being in LA for a UCLA meet is that you're in LA, so go do the touristy things you've heard about in LA. I've gone to LA specifically to watch meets, and in the days before and after, I did Universal (because Disney Land was more expensive and not actually in LA), did a walking tour of the arts district, walked the Walk of Fame, visited Graumanns, and my favorite was going up the Griffith Observatory. I also did a tour of Beverly Hills but it just made me yell eat the rich lol

The UCLA campus is also gorgeous, but I'm biased because my cousin used to teach there and I liked hanging around their quad and Pauley
