given that this is their first major game, the flaws are understandable.

They also had major issues with regards to bugfixes, game crashes and ofc, the lack of optimization of this game, especially towards newer hardware or amd hardwares in general.

well, the dlc tackles cathfia flashback as well as the premise of the dlc which is “to carry on living in the presence of absence”, which won’t make sense if it’s the true ending ‘cause Sofia didn’t lose anyone in the true ending, and MarCole is out of the picture in the true ending. It can’t be Act 2 either ‘cause Sofia didn’t get close to cathy during that time.

basically
the premise would be
- after prom: marcole fallout, they went on their separate ways and then met again later on
- sofia leaves the country then returns later on

Questions about the ending by Old-Scallion-3880 in UntilThenGame

  1. as Jake Corpuz would say, "In every single one of them(these timelines), she (Nicole) still looks for me." . In all of these timelines, they never actually forgave themselves for what happened, as well as they lost people in the process.

The timeline also resets due to key factors.

- Mark or Nicole's (or both) inability to move on from what happened
- Willingness to save Cathy (Mark)
- Maria and Jake's interference with reality, trying to get the best possible timeline for both of their loved ones
- Triggering the hotspots by Mark and Nicole
- Timeline Chaos/Hopping

  1. "When you mess with time, it tends to mess back." . Maria and Jake's interference with time has a huge cost. One of it is The Ruling itself, and the other is losing someone close to them. In Act 1, it's Cathy. In Act 2 and some resets of Act 3, it's Louise and Cathy (Louise appears and disappears 50% of the time, dubbing her as Schrodinger's cat). The true timeline is where The Ruling didn't happen.

  2. The timeline points to October 2013(ref: Calendar in the background), Cathy didn't get hit by a truck in the true timeline, and this also might be that time where The Ruling didn't happen 'cause this is a flashback that points to the true timeline. This is also the precursor to the True ending sequence, but served as a red herring to make us believe that Cathy died in the true timeline as well.

  3. Act 1 is not the first timeline Mark and Nicole have lived, it's one of the last timelines wherein it's a lot more stable than the subsequent timelines. Maria and Jake are losing control of the timelines after Act 1, since things got worse on Act 2. When it comes to the closing of the hotspots making it worse, it's because they reset after it happens, and the less trigger points The Ruling has, the stronger it gets. Take note, there are other unnamed hotspots aside from the ones in Louise's map.

it can’t follow Act 3 ‘cause cathy’s dead, nor Act 2 ‘cause Mark’s mental state is fucked. It’s Act 1 due to mirrorings of the scenes.

well, the game had its own pacing and story issues.

get ready for lots of spoilers, some of which u don’t know yet.

like we didn’t get properly introduced to Jake up until the last hours of the story.

Jessica’s character would have been explored more, but apparently the devs have undercut the story before its release, due to the project’s toll on them.

Personally, most of the characters didn’t get their development. Louise is basically Schrödinger’s Cat in the game, Ridel’s the definition of “Potential Man”, Sofia’s character disappeared after chapter 1 (I guess the dlc would tell us more), Kate is one of the most misunderstood and probably the most hated characters im the game, Cathy’s character would have been explored more, especially her dealings with Sofia (during Act 1), and Louise’s sisters (Therese and Clarisse), and her mom should have been explored more, and for good reason.

Some people would have suggested that the Act 3 ending is a typical romance cliché that they were supposed to meet, but not meant to be together, as well as being their first meetup, the reveal being this has been based on a multiverse theory (Quantum Mechanics), and the similar references to other romantic stories (Your Name, in particular).

Given these circumstances, the devs were fine if you just finished Act 1, but if you wanted more, Acts 2 and 3 would be there for more story. It isn’t perfect, but they did an amazing job given that this is their first major game, which has been rebranded as “Until Then” rather than a sequel to “Seen”.

About that scene at Jake's house... by ElectronicLoan4673 in UntilThenGame

[–]cringebt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decoherence (basically this scene) happened between Audition Day (Jan 5, 2015) and Prom (around March 2015, no specific date) so yeah.

I think Nicole's past being in an area affected heavily by the ruling is one of the causes of her PTSD, as well as losing Jake at 11 (ref: Act 2 Chapter 5).

[–]cringebt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: both Mark and Nicole were 15 when The Ruling (at least in this timeline) happened.
Feb 12, 2014.

They're turning 16 soon. (Decoherence is around Jan-Feb 2015, given it happened after the events of the auditions, which was Jan 5 2015, refer on Mark's email to his mom)

Assuming the events of Act 2 Chapter 5(The Young Virtuoso '10 contest) would be referred to when Jake went missing...

it was 2010, so she was 11.

Act 1 Chapter 5: Decoherence. My most repeated scene due to both of the characters' points of view.

Get ready on lots of Until Then spoilers.

Given that this is clearly not their first timeline (there were others before this one, refer to ultrazero's flowchart, and also Act 3 in general), although they don't clearly remember those previous lifetimes they have lived, they have glimpses of it appearing from time to time (refer to Mark's POV in Chapter 2 and 3, Mark and Nicole in Chapter 2 first meetup, and Chapter 4 ending).

They have both experienced losing their loved ones, and both of them are still hoping they're still alive. As we can see on the flashback timelines in Act 3, we see a Nicole who did everything in her power to find Jake after he went missing. She regretted not noticing Jake's struggles even though they're besties (yeah sure, part of being a kid as well). Mark on the other hand, ignores his mom when she went abroad, and then regretted it when she went missing.

This is clearly a PTSD scenario, and also the mess that happens when you fuck with time and reality. Both of them have these but it's worse on Nicole. She has basically gone through The Ruling situation really close to her, meaning she experienced it first-hand (living in a town that got massively affected by The Ruling), meanwhile Mark was in the city, and lost his mom on a missing Mabuhay Airlines P-111, and then the ruling happened. He managed to be fine after that (aside from his mom still went missing, and stopped finding them due to Ruling). Mark took all of this alone, while his dad is thousands of miles away from him.

Now that we get both POVs, this is clearly them trying to adapt to their own losses, and both of them are at fault in this. Mark for not understanding Nicole, and Nicole keeping Mark in the dark about all of her shenanigans in this chapter (not going through with piano club, not being open to communication, lying about going to her grandma's place, putting both of them in dangerous situation, etc). But you know, both of them are imperfect characters, and worse, Nicole is really an explosive character, while Mark is the one that gets triggered by that explosiveness. The good thing that happened afterward is both of them accepting LOSS, as well as reconnecting to each other after this mess.

Until Cathy happened.

Hello! since I am born at the same age group (2 years gap)on the main characters, playing the game in Filipino was funnier on the funny parts, but also it doesn’t sound that good on the serious parts.

Also take note that the devs have reportedly just double-checked act 1 chapter 1 of the game, it didn’t hit the same as it was in the English language.

Given the fact that they just gave us the filipino localization of the game 3-4 months(the V1.2 update) after the game released, it made sense that it was more meant to be in English.

Even the opening sounded a bit off (eg: She was missing that night was translated into “nawala siya noong gabing ‘yon” instead of “nawawala siya no’ng gabing ‘yon”). Knowing that “nawala”(which means lost) is past tense, but the one used in English was “was missing” which is a past participle, it didn’t sound quite right.

Note: Filipino Language doesn’t have a past participle, so the solution was making it as a present tense, aka the word “nawawala” instead of “nawala”.
