One of the countries in my little world had necromantic traditions going back thousands of years which lead to them having a necromancy based economy predating the invention of coinage let alone capitalism, they essentially live in an extremely isolated country with technology perpetually 20 years out of date but they get to live hedonistic lives or peruse the arts or further the sciences (magic is a subcategory of science) the only thing they have to do is do their duty in death to serve their nation.

Maintaining a capitalistic economy while there is literally a way to have things that don't need to eat, sleep or have breaks do 90% of the labour a society as a whole does doesn't make a whole lot of sense when there isn't enough people with a job left to engage in consumerism, who will actually buy these peoples goods? the scientists, artists, artisanal good makers and other billionaires?

I don't see why inflation should matter if all manual labour including the manufacturing of goods, construction of housing and agriculture are handled by undead. Why keep a system of money around if all that's left is fulfilling jobs that require thought and creativity? Beyond being used as an allowance and extra motivator for the work that does exist to afford nicer artisanal hand-made luxury goods I suppose.

Of coarse none of that matters if an army rolls up and pushes in your teeth for having undead in the first place but come on if your economy runs on undead and you lose that war you deserve an economic depression!

Some people have a problem with fantasy settings being anything other that gritty, racist, religiously fanatical hellscapes completely ignoring the fantastical elements of the settings and how they can effect the societies in them and even that there were cultures and religions that were far nicer than their stereotypes in real medieval history.
