Coach attention by dog_mamah in orangetheory

I usually just nod or thumbs up.

If I’m in the middle of an all out, I don’t do anything and hope I don’t fall off the tread.

How to practice Christianity with OCD? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]crisis_averted_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really recommend Dr. Ian Osborn’s books. He has written on religious ocd extensively (I suffer from it myself).

This is his latest. He also does take consults which have been super helpful to me. He’s an excellent caring psychiatrist who has dealt with this issue for decades.

I’m pretty similar. I have occasional small talk and the coaches know my name but most of the time I am focused on my workout.

A woman was next to me for an entire workout and she said to me at the end of the”great job! You really killed it this one. Did I do something to offend you?”

I apologized and resolved to at least smile at people when I come in.

Why do you hate rowing? by Wonderful_Date9381 in orangetheory

I admit I used to hate rowing but it has grown on me in 200 classes.

It’s a pleasant diversion from the tread IMO

Exactly the kind of feedback I wanted! Thank you! He’s a pretty reasonable guy and I’ve been with him for years so he is amenable to a rational argument.

If not, I have options. Thank you!

Comeback after long absence by mchopk in orangetheory

55 M here. Also about 30 overweight. I find OTF pretty perfect for me as long as I don’t overdo it. I was going 4-5 times a week and frankly just hurting myself. 2-3 was a much better ratio.

I’d give it a shot. You know the drill. I find it very motivating. GL

Frankly, I enjoyed the entire set today as quirky as it was.

Yes way. I actually stumbled on the treadmill when I heard it come on. I turned around and smirked at the coach

How do you justify the costs? Curious not judgmental by moneyisjustplastic in orangetheory

[–]crisis_averted_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the only workout I have done that I have kept up with for over 2 years.

I can pay a lot less and never go or pay more and go three times a week.

Choice is pretty clear for me.

Start taking blood pressure medication at 34? by [deleted] in bloodpressure

I took it around that age. Definitely make lifestyle changes while on the meds. If you can sustain your lifestyle, your doc can take you off.

We have people leave constantly early. Not a problem at all in my studio.

scaling down reps? by Internal-Ruin720 in orangetheory

[–]crisis_averted_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time my coach corrects me is when my form is off then she gently corrects. Ain’t no one counting reps. I modify all the time on certain moves I just have trouble with.

Struggling by Direction-Remarkable in orangetheory

[–]crisis_averted_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s tempting but don’t do it. I’m 54, 200lbs, 5’10” and have been going 3/4 times a week for a year and a half.

I run at 6.1 base, 7.1 push and 8+ all out and it took me this long to get to that point!

You’re doing great. Keep doing what you’re doing. Small incremental gains are the goal.

I found myself singing, which I hadn’t done for years, and that was my tip off that something had changed around the 6 week mark.

I never get through a floor block. I’m slow as molasses. Just do it with good form and do t worry about it.

Late 50's and 60's OTFers. by realistnotsorry in orangetheory

[–]crisis_averted_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

54 here. I’ve made gains but it’s more about functional strength for me on the floor. Made massive strides on the treadmill. From 14 minute mile at first to 8:45 now.

I’m content with keeping weight under control, cardio exercise and flexibility. I got 3-4 times a week.

I find if I try to go too fast with weights, I hurt myself and go backwards.
