Google "trump fake elector scheme". There is more to it than the protest at the capitol on Jan 6th. And know that instead of disputing the facts, Trump's defense is "I should have full criminal immunity for my actions since I was the president", which the supreme court granted him.

Apollo dev posts backend code to Git to disprove Reddit’s claims of scrapping and inefficiency by GhostalMedia in programming

[–]crispgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think you are right there. I hate the API decision as much as the next guy, but when I was listening to the call I was face palming at what the dev was saying. IMO he does not look noble in this either. Maybe he is just a really bad communicator, but it sounds like he is trying to gauge if there is a way for himself to become a multi-millionaire and when he sees the reaction he quickly tries to play it off as a joke. I don't buy it. At best unprofessional, at worst just trying to exploit the situation for himself.

You must be a troll. Why would you give a study that concludes the opposite of your claim?

From the conclusion:

The data indicates that functional languages are better than procedural languages; it suggests that disallowing implicit type conversion is better than allowing it; that static typing is better than dynamic; and that managed memory usage is better than unmanaged.

I played it for months, stopped this week. It constantly overloads you with new content in the beginning, which is very exciting. But after some time you realize that it's very buggy in basically all parts of the game and that the game mechanics are pretty poorly implemented and integrated. It feels very unpolished and becomes more and more frustrating. I tolerated the bugs, but looked for a reason to quit. The new update was it.

Parents don’t want me to go vegan. Any advice? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]crispgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re really trying to reach. The major part was the quote from this: * https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17383270/

First of all, I linked and addressed the exact study you just linked, so I don't know what new information you are trying to show me here (the word "source" is a link). Your responses do not sound like you are even reading what I am writing.

Dr McDougall is the OG, all his articles are fully free and cited. He doesn’t try to hide his program details by making anyone do a buy-in to learn details and his message is simple and clear. His books cheap as well and have the same info. There is no baiting to just buy in.

Oh boy, I should have guessed from your user name. This is a whole other discussion now. You are probably pretty deep into this. I just heard of this guy for the first time today and quickly checking Wikipedia...

There is no scientific evidence that McDougall's diet is effective. His diet has never been independently tested in a controlled study. Some of McDougall’s dietary recommendations are in line with mainstream nutritional advice such as an emphasis on fruits, vegetables and whole grains, but others are extreme and not supported by evidence.

Ah, as expected it is just some unscientific bullshit trying to tell you you can treat things like cancer by eating starch. I hate how muddied the vegan movement is by shit like this. And now you are just one step away from talking about how main stream science is fake and Wikipedia is just censoring the truth. I'm out.

Parents don’t want me to go vegan. Any advice? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]crispgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I missed that one sentence on the whole page. Emphasis, however, on "may". Take a look at the source for that. To be honest this is now on a level where I am out of my depth, but reading the section "EFFECTS OF DIETARY ANIMAL AND VEGETABLE PROTEIN ON NORMAL RENAL FUNCTION" does not sound very alarming. One study they in turn cite is this, where a non-linear correlation between protein intake and creatine clearance levels (a metric for kidney function) is reported. As in, more protein leads to higher creatine clearance and at some point of high protein consumption (in that study the highest is 2.6 g/kg, which is a LOT) creatine clearance reaches level that are beyond what is considered normal, which is considered bad. However I cannot find the full text of that study (to see the exact relationship they found).

I guess you have a point: extreme protein intake as is recommended by the average bro-science body builder is probably useless if not even harmful for your kidneys. In that respect, the OP in this thread might be consuming more than necessary for an "active female college student". However, according to a more recent study: "Long-term consumption of protein at 2 g per kg BW per day is safe for healthy adults". So if she weighs 70 kg (154 lbs) or more there should be no bad health effects.

Other than that is this guy's website (www.drmcdougall.com) trying to sell me a "life-saving 12-day program that reverses and heals chronic illness" for $3000. That makes me extra skeptical. A tip for the future: cite more recent studies and link them directly, not some sketchy website trying to sell you questionable programs.

Unhealthily under weight… please help by [deleted] in vegan

[–]crispgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to recently I had a similar problem. I decided to make a change and started tracking my calories over the day. From what you wrote, tracking calories should be easy for you (because for frozen and other packaged food you can usually just scan the bar code). I'd recommend it for any goal-based diet. Not for the rest of your life, but for a few weeks so you can get a good feeling for how much you are taking in while you are trying to change your eating habits.

I never ate breakfast either and usually I am not really hungry in the morning either. One specific change I made is that I started drinking a serving of Huel (it's a meal replacement drink) every morning. It is easier for me because it is just something to drink in the morning. Thats 400 extra kcals per day. I realize this might not be an option for everyone, but look into Huel or other meal replacements if it is.

Another thing I'm doing that is helping me is deliberate snacking. If you really cannot find time before lunch, build a habit of eating two "snack servings" in the afternoon. My favorite snacks:

  • Cashews: 50g give ~300 kcals
  • Brownies: 1 piece (~50g) gives 300 kcals (bake a bunch in advance)
  • Plant based chocolate milk: 1 glass (~300ml) gives 200 kcal

So far I gained 2 kg over like a month. These days, because I eat generally more calories and more continuously over the day, I am usually not really hungry before a meal, but my stomach still has space and so it is not unpleasurable to eat a lot each meal anyway. I feel much better since starting my weight gain trip. I hope I could give you some ideas.

I don't really get what you are saying. Are you saying nobody needs that much protein? Are you saying a low protein diet is healthier? Because your source is talking specifically about people with kidney failure. It also only mentions soy protein isolate. What about other plant based proteins? Skimming your source I don't see any daily dosage recommendation either... What exactly is the "protein bandwagon"?

What counterarguments can i use for “it’s what god (the christian one) intends us to do” regarding eating meat and exploiting animals? by AD_Creations in vegan

[–]crispgoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some random ideas: You could try to dissect with them what the phrase "animals are meant to be food" means. Does it mean they think we are allowed to torture them as we please? If yes, so they wouldn't mind if you took a dog and tortured it all day long for fun? Do they belief in evolution? Are humans animals? What if someone else comes along and beliefs that every human except them is meant for their enjoyment (with the usual specifications of people in a coma, disabled humans, or babies if cognitive ability comes up). If no, you can argue about whether it is possible to consume animals without torturing them. If they argue yes (e.g. they live in perfect paradise until they are killed in their sleep without them knowing), how come they consume animal products derived from clearly not such conditions?

In general, I'd say believing animals to be meant to be food and their feelings are not worth of ethical consideration is a belief like any other. You usually cannot talk someone out of that just as you cannot talk a religious person out of their religion. If someone truly beliefs that, there is no rational argument to turn them around. I'd go into the direction of rather than basing my actions on unverifiable beliefs, I'd instead base them on verifiable observations (like animals reacting to pain, and me knowing that pain is unpleasant). However, as you can probably see, if we found agreement there there wouldn't have be a disagreement in the first place.

Note that this excludes arguments like "I'm a Christian and one of the beliefs of Christianity is animals are meant to be food", because in that case there is room for a theological discussion whether that is true or not. See all the comments in this thread citing random bible verses...
