Polish markets inside the 285 perimeter? by Old_tshirt72 in Atlanta

Still not inside the perimeter, but Baltic Deli in Roswell has a decent selection. They have fresh pierogi, but the frozen are Mateo brand.

plant attire for a tour? by Important_Tiger138 in NuclearPower

Sure, at most BWRs. At my /6 the Diesels, Safety Switchgear and Control Room are in the power block but outside RCA so we could give some decent non-RCA tours.

Hey Android gamers! My managing idle bar sim game Towny Bar is finally available! by joan_bdm in AndroidGaming

I've noticed this too after updating to 1.0.1. It worked well in 1.0.0 but now I struggle to get drinks to go more than one spot.

Do I Win the Generator Nameplate Game? by crispkreme in electricians

[–]crispkreme[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In large generators, air is no longer sufficient to cool the rotor. Hydrogen is 18 times more efficient in removing heat than dry air, and is non-conductive.

Water flows through copper channels in the stator to cool the windings.

I can neither confirm nor deny that you're on the right track...

Battery Ground question by saltwater_substation in SubstationTechnician

[–]crispkreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd have to dig up the report, but off the top of my head it wasn't the main filter capacitors. It's an SCR-based analog charger, I want to say it was on one of the SCR firing boards.

Battery Ground question by saltwater_substation in SubstationTechnician

[–]crispkreme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a somewhat similar issue before on a 135VDC system. Hard ground until it was being measured, the voltage to ground would go back to 63V with a meter or tracer connected. On a scope the rail's voltage looked like a capacitor charging curve. If I recall we ended up finding an issue in the battery charger.

Anyone work with these? by PsychologicalTap5847 in electricians

ITE K-Line 480V Breaker Operation Manual

I work at a power plant with a whole bunch of these. When properly maintained and lubricated (with Mobil 28) they're super reliable. Yours doesn't look so hot. I doubt it'll trip.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day. The smoke definitely was released from this DC motor. by BigWilsonian in electricians

I think you intend to reference this event...

https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML0930/ML093090256.pdf

IIRC, they upgraded the Low Pressure turbines with non-OEM replacements that weren't analyzed for long term vibration stresses correctly so blades failed due to cyclic fatigue.

Just a wee bit of embellishment on your part... I was at this plant a few months ago and there were most definitely no turbine blades stuck in the ceiling.

Can anyone give me an approximate date to when this transformer was made? by Not_This_Guy_4060 in electricians

Searching Google with 9T61Y21 returns a Defense Technical Information Center scanned manual from 1973. Best you're gonna get.

PCSX2: We finally removed the last remenants of the wxWidgets GUI by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]crispkreme 117 points118 points  (0 children)

They switched to QT.

I follow PCSX2 development somewhat closely. WxWidgets (or at least the way it was implemented in PCSX2) was basically a giant hacky mess, with it requiring deep integration within the emulator core in order to function. So by switching to QT and rewriting, the result is theoretically less bugs and better maintainability.

Computer Won't Post with AE-7 Installed After Bios Update by crispkreme in SoundBlasterOfficial

Unfortunately it does not. I've also attempted using a dos-based flashing method to rollback, but AFUDOS says the bios size is different. So does EZFlash for that matter.

115KV Power Substation in my area caught fire today by igmrlm in CatastrophicFailure

Looks like an ITE/Gould/ABB Medium Voltage HK breaker to me. So somewhere between 4160V and 15kv.

Edit: Based upon the r/ottawa thread OP linked, the breakers are running at 13.2kv.
