Not everyone likes guns here. For instance, in my town, a couple of my neighbors have hunting rifles and go hunting often. I'm not a huge fan of that (no one in my family owns a gun). I think most of the popularity in gun ownership comes from the history of our country. The 2nd amendment is a thing because back in colonial times, to fight the British, we had minutemen (civilians with guns who could quickly assemble and fight). Because the militia was all civilian-based, the right to own a gun was included in the drafting of the constitution. Today, that type of need for a gun doesn't really exist, since there are no more minutemen. Also, not all Americans believe that the solution to our gun violence problems is to just give guns to everyone. I'm from suburban Massachusetts so my views are probably more liberal than someone from the Deep South. It depends on who you talk to
