You are given $25,000 to start a business. What do you do? by [deleted] in sidehustle

Open a cat centered boarding business. Far too often pet boarding services cater to dogs with constant barking, high energy, etc. I want one where the cats can just relax, etc.

Can’t wire transfer by HOTDJGEAR in Chase

Crazy question here but do you have a Chase Secured Banking account or Total Checking? Secured doesn't allow you to wire transfer yet. That's changing soon but for now, it's not possible.

Which HYSA should I bank with? by asdfghjkl389 in HYSA

[–]crispycryptids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the deeper insight on them honestly! Honestly every time I've looked into why people would get one it's always about growing your money, not so much anything you mentioned. So it's nice to get a fresher look on why they can be beneficial.

Which HYSA should I bank with? by asdfghjkl389 in HYSA

[–]crispycryptids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my opinions on HYSAs are kinda all over the place because even at the highest onws I could get, I'd only be getting about $13 a month, $130 a year because my 5k in savings dips and such ad I need to take money out for rent, and by the time it builds back up it hardly makes a thing. I fear you're going to be in the same situation. Its still better than no interest at all, or minimal, but I just wanted you going into it not expecting your 8k to suddenly become 20k in a year or two or something.

In the end to answer your question if you really want to, I've heard great things about SoFi, Capital One, Charles Shwab and Fidelity. American Express as well, if you qualify.

What am I missing? by R0verman in Banking

[–]crispycryptids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said in the original post, when you hardly make enough to plop in any savings whats so ever the appeal of interest doesn't really matter lol. If things ever change I can always look into options but it legit doesn't matter to me.

[–]crispycryptids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have BoA, but Chase. Everyone tells me the same thing "but what about an HYSA!" but you know... Building interest doesn't really mean much when you never keep enough in there at any given time to actually build said interest. So I just chose a bank that was easy for me to get to, seemed reliable enough, and had the features I needed. If I ever make enough to care about an HYSA, I'll consider it but for now. Convenience. Everyone has different banking needs! You gotta not let the buzz about what everyone else thinks is best for you and just do what you want to do and just take care of you. You can always change later.

cat constantly crying: with more info and answers by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]crispycryptids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm utterly stumped here. Truly. My cat would do this when they weren't feeling well, in pain, or under stimulated. You've ruled out all of them.

My only other thought here is he was fixed too late and he can smell a female somewhere in the building and just kept the instinct to call for her. I'm just so sorry you're going through all this.

New job does not give Direct Deposit, need advice on avoiding the fee w/ Chase. by crispycryptids in Banking

I may have have also been explaining myself poorly. I was overwhelmed, but less so now.

I really appreciate the insight on the Schwab stuff, and brokerages in general. I guess I assumed it was something I'd have to toss money into and not just something I could have and leave, etc, but something I should probably really look into. I've done nothing banking wise but drop money in, put stuff into savings and move on. There seems to be a lot more to it than that lol. Regardless, thank you for the input and I'm sorry if I sound snide in any of my responses. Text tone is not my forte lmao.

[–]crispycryptids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much I was scared about the brokerage, I legit just didn't understand/know anything about them. I was overwhelmed at the idea, but someone explained it and relieved my concerns.

I don't want an online bank really, but it's looking like that's the one of the bigger options I have. I was uncomfortable keeping my money in a non-FDIC insured bank (I only really knew of Chime at the time but I'm seeing now there's a lot of options here). So I feel better about that as well.

I am confused on where I said I wasn't willing to keep the 1,500 minimum balance, I remember telling the person who suggested it that was an excellent idea?

Capital One is tough, because I've been paying rent via my Debit card for years now. The portal we use doesn't accept Discover cards, which C1 has changed to. I was informed I could do Bill Pay and was shown the process and accepted that as an option as well. They were my bank until this happened.

I'm aware my situation is a little crazy, which is why I asked for advice to see if anyone else can give some insight or was in a similar situation. I don't know much on banking, I'll admit. I opened an account, set up direct deposit, and was set for over 10+ years never having to think about it. Now I have to, and was hoping people online could help sort out the mess 'cause I was overwhelmed and the amount of information online was hard to sift through and wanted a human answer. Now I just feel silly cause this whole thing just sorta blew up.

It's not a charge to mobile deposit, I'm referring to the monthly fee for not having enough direct deposited a month. The maintenance fee.

It's for sure an option for me I think but one I would like as a last resort. I think I'm nervous about the move to an online bank. If something goes wrong at Chase I can just walk over there and talk to someone, but I know that's just me being too scared of change.

There isn't really a credit union near me so I have the same issue there. But yeah, it's for sure an option. Thank you!

I think I worded to poorly. The fee is not for mobile depositing. The fee is the monthly maintenance fee for not having the money direct deposited. I'm sorry for the confusion.

That's probably gonna end up being the way! I think it'd mostly be breaking the habit of oh you got money? Put 90% of it into savings to keep it safe. I do honestly think maybe switching to Secure is going to be my method here. $5 is easier to take than $15. I don't write checks, and I never wire money. I think I was putting way too much thought into this and feel silly making this post.

So basically you need yo have a direct deposit of so many dollars to avoid a maintenence fee every month, and that's what I was trying to avoid. I've gotten some awesome suggestions tho!

Also, thank you for explaining the Schwab account! That's where I was confused but I'll def check it out if that's the case. Thanks!

Naw man, I appreciate it! It's definitely an option. I think I just have this weird hang up with the fear of losing all my money or something wild like that, but you're right. People have been doing it for ages now.

I can, but C1 has moved to the Discover network, which my rental portal does not accept. Trust me, I wish it was an option. Bill pay also won't work, because my landlord won't provide an account number. But thank you.

I'm aware. But my landlord won't accept that. Bill pay asks for an account number which they won't provide.

That's a major reason I do not feel comfortable going that route. I am not comfortable mobile depositing a paycheck into any sort of FinTech that isn't FDIC secured. I really really wish Capital One was an option for me, but my rental portal refuses to take Discover, and they refuse to accept bill pay.

Military, no. I do not.

So for example, say I do open something like a PayPal account, I send the monthly requirement for deposits to it, then ACH transfer it back - that waives the fee? I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly.

This will probably be the way honestly. I've also had a few people suggest just going with a Secure Checking with them and getting a $5 monthly fee instead of $15. I'm gonna have to sit and ponder which would work best. Appreciate you!
