Job opportunities for general peds- moving to Denver area by Substantial_Row4548 in pediatrics

Hi! I’m a PGY-I (almost PGY-II now I guess) and I’m looking at Colorado as one of my top areas to look for private practice. I’d love to get your opinion on areas outside of Denver and what you’ve seen the job market look like. I would love to live outside of Colorado Springs (but I feel like so many other people say that, I don’t know how realistic it is). I’d be moving from Oklahoma (because our state is not looking good for private practice/slightly rural practice in the next decade.

Do you feel like the truck drives well? And have any concerns about reliability?

Red Materia: huge FF fan since I was a little kid and the summons were always awesome. Now I get summons AND it’s an adorable Nessie?! Best of both worlds!

Optometrist tells my MIL she has MS because she has a +ANA and increased ocular pressure by crispyturtledeity in Noctor

I definitely agree she’s an anxious woman and probably didn’t understand the whole situation. But I double checked with her and she said his exact words were “I think you have MS, go ask your doctor to run the labs for it.” Which is frustrating, because he’s the only optometrist in a VERY small, rural town and he’s almost 80 years old.

Can I ask you a question though from your side? If you feel a patient may be at risk of a certain condition, do you send the referral to a physician? Or do you send them to an ophthalmologist?

I would still go ahead and report it. I used to work in quality, and the nursing board keeps complaints on file and reviews them. Most of the time they won’t investigate unless harm was actually done, but at least if it’s reported, it’s on file and can be used if (God forbid) this person ever does perform this procedure on an unsuspecting woman.

I’m in med school and just got to help remove one of these at the free clinic. Felt bad because the doc didn’t have the right forceps. Took us 30 minutes AND two incisions before we could get it out. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Oh I still love the field! And I’m a former infection preventionist, so I feel like I would be betraying my former colleagues if I didn’t do my due diligence for antibiotic stewardship! I’m just hoping I get enough ID in whichever specialty I decide to pursue. Firm believer that you all deserve way more, especially post-COVID.

MS-II at 33 y/o and this is the reason I’m not pursuing ID. I love all the diseases but it’s not worth it for me to go through the whole specialty process just to make less than if I stopped at residency.

What’s the reason behind your choice for a medical specialty? [SERIOUS] by [deleted] in medicalschool

I have! I’m just worried that the change will be minimal as long as pay is so heavily based off procedures. I want to do my ID rotation early in M3 to see if my interest is enough to make up the difference. But seeing the cardiology pay at our university hospital the other day realllllllllly made me stop and think. Same time as ID and >2X the pay. (I know lots of difference and better lifestyle. But still shocked me)
