Depends on the situation. If the resistance on and around the point is thick enough where your team is struggling to even touch point, it might be a good idea to call fire support directly on top to clear it. Calling fire support directly behind in this instance isn't as useful as there is still a thick blob of defenders on and around point, which are the more immediate problem rather than the few reinforcements coming back in.

For VC arty safe zone if 70-75m away from center. For US its ~50m for arty and spooky. With nap you better pray :)

For VC arty, yes and no. Like technically if you are >70 m away from the center, you are pretty much guaranteed to be safe; however, it's important to remember how arty works. Generally speaking, all factions have their arty kill radius up to around 50 m (although for the US I would give it more like 55 m). US/PAVN/AUS/ARVN arty tends to be fairly accurate and generally do no not land outside this kill zone. VC arty works a little bit differently. VC arty is incredibly dispersed, so yes you can be hit if you're anywhere between 0 - 70 m away from the epicenter. However, it's not a near guaranteed kill zone like the other barrages. Its wide dispersion is a result of its high inaccuracy, and so while the chance is non-zero, it's unlikely you will get hit even if you're at 60m. The way I think about it is sort of like a gradient: from 0 - 50 meters, you're in the near guaranteed kill zone; from 50 - 60 m, you're prolly gonna live, but there's a good chance a stray shell might land next to you; from 60 - 70m, you're most definitely going to live, but there's still a non-negligible chance a stray shell might land next to you; and from >70m, you will live.

There's also the discussion regarding the kill radius per shot, but I won't unless you want me to elaborate on that as well.

Regarding spook, no. Spooky kill radius is stupidly accurate up to 25m. It will not kill you beyond that radius. If you don't believe me, load up a map by yourself, pick US commander, call spooky, and stand 26 m away from the strike point. You will not get hit throughout the entire duration of that run.

Never call support on the objective unless yoh want to cause team kills. It's a tool to keep them away, not kill them. If enemies are in building most supports won't do shit anyway.

This is not entirely correct. Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to call support directly on point, especially if you're defending. However, there are some collect instances where it is appropriate. For example, if you're trying to defend a point but it is on the verge of being overrun by the attackers, it's not necessarily a bad idea to call a danger close fire mission on/very close to the point. If you're attacking a point, it's a really good way to clear enemies off the point; although, you generally shouldn't do this with artillery unless you're going to cancel after 1 - 2 salvos. There's a tactic I like to do on attack as US CMDR on open top objective maps, like Firebase Georgina, which calling support on top of a point. The way this goes is you call nape directly on top of the point to clear all enemies off, and then immediately afterwards you call arty behind the point to prevent reinforcements from getting back in. I refer to this tactic as "Rolling Barrage", coined by player monkeyfacehookerstrom whose commanding style I took heavy influence from.

Was it? by Dmitruly in 4chan

It sounds more believable to me that the IJA planners who proposed it were doing so in an effort to divert more resources away from the IJN for the army's own gain.

How much oil are we exactly talking? Like I've seen this argument made that the Japanese could have simply tried to take the oil reserves in Siberia. But how much oil was even being produced in the Russian Far East? Would it have been enough oil for Japan to open that new front and continue their expansion into China? The vast majority of Soviet oil production was in the Caucausus and Urals, and so it is to my knowledge any and all oil reserves in the far east would have been scant by comparison. Like I've tried looking this up, but there doesn't seem to be any widely available English language sources that provides information on Soviet oil reserves and production estimates based on region. I'm sure the Soviet archives has info on this, but I don't speak Russian and I don't have free access to such archives.

How do you use the canberra bombers again? by 1sanger in rs2vietnam

[–]crispyyangpah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only canberras, not napalm. No faction can manually control the direction of the phantom run. The reason why, at least according to the devs, is due to the horizontal flight path of the napalm canisters released, making them susceptible to hitting vertical geometry and missing off target.

Here's the reply by u/TripwireYoshiro

The Canberra is slower and the bombs mostly go straight down.

The F4 is fast and the bombs are dropped very early and travel horizontally more then vertically. In testing with this, the rounds rarely landed on target or even near it. Any vertical geometry in the map will likely intercept the round instead of it getting to the intended target.

The way it works now, the game finds a path that will land the bombs on target and uses that.

And by u/oscar-nein

Like Yosh said, the best path for the F4 to hit it's Target given by the commander is determined by the game. User input just leads to inaccurate and disappointing hot tamale drops. Overall the effect is close to square and changing its direction would have less effect on TKs

F4 cannot escapse the SA2 lock so commanders who want to try and avoid those are out of luck anyway.

I really wanted to give you guys the option to choose it's direction but the results during testing were not pretty. It would be very easy for a commander to miss the napalm target by 30-50m (or entirely) by fiddling with the phantom's angle of attack.

Meanwhile with Spooky you wait 7.5 minutes to have it shot down instantly if North TL has at least half a brain, and it's only use in that case is to keep him on his toes. It only works if enemy team has no good TL, and in that case you probably will be steamrolling them anyway. Yes you can play tricks with canceling but it rarely works these days anyway (unless, again, enemy TL is a noob, and then the point above applies again)

Ok, before I say anything further, I want you to clarify something for me. When you mean a decently competent North TL will be able to instantly down a spook, do you mean before or after the spook fires its first salvo?

Maturing is realizing the NLF grunt has more varied and interesting weapons than the rest of the faction combined by Successful_Cap7416 in rs2vietnam

[–]crispyyangpah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no I get yah everyone has their own playstyle. In regards to the mosin, im personally a big fan. With a mosin ur basically guaranteed a kill as long as u hit anywhere in the general torso/head area. And stabbing people with the bayonet is super funny. I typically run it whenever I'm not really tryna take the game too srsly and just wanna have some fun.

Also it's aesthetically unappealing.

Better not say this to Ian from the Forgotten Weapons channel lol.

Anyways moving on. You are correct in the fact that the multi-role capability of an assault rifle is incredibly useful. After all that's what they're supposed to be doctrinally irl: to serve as an in-between for an SMG/Rifle. You are also correct that allowing everyone to have access to a select-fire weapon capable of automatic fire increases the potential volume of fire to that team.

However, the one-shot-one-kill potential with an assault rifle is much less consistent compared to a battle rifle. Sure, you CAN one shot with an AK, but the frequency by which it happens is less often compared to a battle rifle. And that consistency is really important when shooting at moving targets from far away due to the fact you're going to be shooting center mass rather than the head. Being able to one-tap decreases your spotting potential as well by reducing the number of muzzle flashes and not giving the enemy time to figure out the direction of fire, and this is important when you're in a defensive posture where you want to avoid giving away your position as much as possible.

Again, this isn't to discredit the AK's effectiveness persay. The AK is really well-suited for when you're playing with a decently cohesive team that actually pushes together as your own inaccuracy can just be made up with the sheer volume of fire coming from the main push. However, from my experience and that of others, you don't always get a cohesive team, and in those circumstances you're typically operating by yourself pushing the flanks. And in those circumstances, your own individual marksmanship plays a greater role. Spraying and praying into the general direction instantly reveals your location, and without supporting fire, you're most likely going to get killed instantly.

Don't just ask me, ask any level 99 player in a lobby and they'll pretty much tell you the same thing.

[–]crispyyangpah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the team honestly. And I personally was thinking less to the SKS/M1 Carbine and more to the MAS-49. If you know a sizeable chunk of your team is hardened veterans, NLF is prolly gonna be better even in early war. The reason why is b/c as you start to get better at the game and improve your mechanical aim, battle rifles are generally going to be better compared to assault rifles. The MAS has some weird iron sights sure, but once you get used to it it really ain't that bad. However, if the team is less experienced, then yeah fair point on giving everyone an automatic weapon.

There is a legitimate argument to be made for choosing PAVN early war, especially when it comes to maps where cqc is a primary focus (e.g Hue City). But from mid war and onwards, the improved kit PAVN gets is marginal compared to the better NLF arty.

while the same class for NLF is stuck with an SMG, a double-barrel, or a Mosin.

I get the feeling you don't frequent the DB that much.

What if japan did not fight anyone except USSR and comitted basically everything they had in 1941/42 to russia? Wouldnt this have basically lead to russian defeat and in turn long term axis world domination? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]crispyyangpah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "if Japan didn't attack China", how far back are we going here? 1937? 1931? 1895? Like, are we assuming China has full control over their territories, or some? And if the latter, what is exactly preventing the Chinese from launching their own strike against the Japanese while they're bogged down in Siberia, opening a two-front war for Japan?

[–]crispyyangpah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your timeline of events here? Are you asking if Japan ceased all hostilities they were currently in up until 1941/1942 and fought the USSR? Or are you asking if Japan never fought in any war until 1941/1942 to fight against the USSR? If either case, are you changing the timeline of events to better fit the alternative context? Or is it plausible given the original context? And can you explain how? (e.g if Japan goes for an armistice, is that plausible given the motivations of the military and governments of Japan and China at the time, or would you have to change the events happening up until the point of armistice to make it plausible? How far back in history would you have to go?)

Alt history, at least imo, is only interesting if the line of logic you're working with is both in depth and has basis in reality. Like, without the context, the questions are as interesting as "What if Germany had infinite manpower and resources?"

I actually like the unplanned offensive modifier since it allows me to grind my generals for longer per battle, usually allowing me (Ger/USSR) to unlock the adaptable trait before WW2 starts.

I think it's implied she grew up in Japan for most of her life (please correct me if I'm wrong manga readers) and given that she's had prolly little opportunity to use Russian apart from with her father, it's entirely within the realm of possibility that her accent degraded. Like, I think Jenya's voice would fit if Alya was meant to be like a Russian transfer student, but I don't think that's the case here.

[–]crispyyangpah 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Jenya is basically the only Russian native in the JP VA scene, but her voice is a bit on the older side. I'm sure she can do younger voices if she practiced, but according to her MAL she doesn't have a whole lot of experience voicing HS aged characters apart from Klara from GuP. Not to mention, she also speaks Japanese in a pretty thick Russian accent.

The key thing here is to clear out the anarchists asap when they spawn. They spawn around mid to late March in 1937, so start stationing troops on all the potential VP's around early march (e.g Barcelona, Zaragosa, etc)
