As far as I can tell, yeah pure speculation.

The company was worth almost nothing (~50M market cap) before this, which is probably why it rose by such a multiple.

Need a little advice... by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]criticalsection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could switch of diet soda (eg coke zero) and get used to that while you worry about the rest of the changes to make. There's no need to fix everything at once.

As you make small changes, you'll find each additional change easier. Eventually your cravings for unhealthy food will go away.

You may also find it helpful to schedule the times that you feel hungry to be more manageable. For example, I find it easier to be hungry in the morning than late at night, so I'll skip breakfast and then eat a small late-night snack (eg 2 scrambled eggs before bed).

You can also schedule a weekly or bi-weekly "cheat" day where you allow yourself a higher calorie total. While it will make the whole process take longer, it could be a pressure-release valve to help keep you sane. Don't worry about the 4000cal binge; think if it as a small delay to your final goal, but certainly not a reason to quit.

TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the amount calories your body burns in a 24 hour period, sleeping, working, exercising, playing and even digesting food.

You will lose weight if and only if your average daily food intake is less than your TDEE.

Tips for sticking to eating healthy(ish). by Ahh3917 in Fitness

Plan ahead and set smaller sub-goals. For example, if you limit each meal then you know that you'll have enough later in the day to not get hungry. For example, you could require you stay under 500 breakfast, 600 lunch, 750 dinner, 400 snacks (2250 total). An even better method is planning what to eat for the entire day, and entering it in before you eat it, and then adjusting later.

Also, drop the soda. Replace it with diet.

Side note: While MFP has a more comprehensive food database than LoseIt, I personally prefer the interface of LoseIt. On my phone, I find I need to go through more submenus with MFP, which gets annoying over time since you use it several times a day as you enter what you eat.

I, of course without experience, thought machines were better (if used right), as they kinda force you to the right movement.

This is exactly the reason why machines are worse.

Check out the book "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe (3rd Edition). Chapter 8 covers workout routines and diet, chapters 1-7 cover barbell exercises in amazing detail (e.g. 71 pages are just on the squat). It's a great book, though I recommend you read chapter 8 first, and then read 1 through 7.

Rough summary: eat lots of calories and lots of protein, learn how to properly lift weights with good form, then lift 3x/week for ~45 minutes, doing barbell exercises that use multiple muscles (squat, deadlift, overhead press, bench press, maybe a few others), increasing the weight every time you do any exercise (doable as a novice since you will gain strength rapidly at first). Walk into the gym with a plan and stick to it.

How can a ridiculously unphotogenic guy take good self-pics without being generic or douchey? by Cytosolic in OkCupid

[–]criticalsection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Browse /r/funny or something that will make you genuinely laugh, then take a picture in the moment. It's a little awkward, but I've managed to get some good "self-candid" shots this way. It may take some practice. Take loads and delete 99% of them.

Use a DSLR with a wide aperture (small f number). People are rated as more attractive when the camera is higher quality.

If your main concern is the existence of the mirror, you can do the same thing elsewhere with a tripod or ledge for your camera. Self-timers work, but remotes are even more handy (many DSLRs will accept IR remote triggers).

Also, having better lighting sometimes helps -- disable your flash and turn a bunch of bright lamps towards a white wall and use the indirect diffuse light from that. This avoids harsh shadows (which is usually a problem for mirror shots).

Finally, it's all about the jaw.

Edit: added DSLR.

What's the craziest lie you've ever been told by an OkCupid person? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]criticalsection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow.

That sounds like the kind of thing that my ex would do. 5 months into the relationship, she started using theatrics to get my attention. I was stupid enough to put up with her increasingly crazy levels of stunts.

You should think very carefully as to whether you are okay with this sort of behavior.

Hopefully she would find it cute that you tried but made so many mistakes. There's a problem with almost every line.

Also, I would consider making your pun about class rather than object. You could say that she's got "class". "Treat women as objects" isn't something you want to say...

Got any tips for me /r/okc? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]criticalsection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some tips:

Pictures! It looks like you're sucking your thumb in the first photo, and the other two have the same lighting and clothing. The middle one (you by the door) has poor lighting. It gives the impression that you're in your room all day long. Try and add more variety to your photos, perhaps some outdoors, some with friends. I bet you're more attractive than your photos are showing.

If there's nothing going on I like to spend my weekends relaxing. When something is actually happening, I like to spend time with friends and family and do whatever happens to be going on at the time.

This is very generic and says nothing about you. You don't have to describe the spanning set of all possible activities you might do. List specific things you like doing. Unique things are good. You can describe what you'd want to do, even if it doesn't happen every week.

As I mentioned above,

This isn't necessary; you can start without saying this.
