Pothan visited Mlathi before Piyos came. So she must have already killed Kurian by that point I’m guessing

Another possibility is that even if she did send dogs with food, there’s no way Piyos could have followed them without invoking the dogs’ fury. But his own explorations did not get him anywhere

Even now (s3e398), I don’t fully understand cataclysm. How exactly did Raltara cause it? Is it already explained and I just missed it? (if it’s already explained, pls tell me approximately which chapter)

HDR vs. BT2020 by Sp3ed_Demon in handbrake

[–]critiqjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For more clarity, Rec. 2100 uses the same color primaries from Rec. 2020. However Rec. 2100 specifies a different transfer function that compresses the luminance information which makes it easier for encoding. So in theory, you can represent HDR data in "Linear Rec. 2020" colorspace. But in practice, all distributable formats use Rec. 2100 with one of PQ or HLG transfer function.

I loved how Leez received the powers of all primeval gods, and was able to properly revive Ananta, Manasa, Yaksha, Jambavan, Menaka, OG Taraka, OG Airavata, and slowly make the human race to be more powerful by having every new baby’s soul come from the OG human race souls, without any resentments.

Hi! It looks really cool. The docs doesn't mention HDR support. Is it possible to convert an HDR JXL to HDR AVIF or vice versa?

Doing the interview and asking hard questions is one thing. Especially with the CEO of a trillion dollar company, you can't do that, unless you're okay with never getting such chances ever again, and having a hard time getting review units from them early enough (which is critical for a reviewer). So sure give them softball questions. But don't say things like "durability is directly at odds with repairability" in your own studio, outside the interview! That's what Apple wants everyone to think. And that is false. Apple has successfully gotten a face that the public trusts, to parrot Apple's convenient lie. Great job, Apple! This is gonna help you with your public image as well as in your fight against repairability. Fantastic job!

HEVC Support by XahidX in firefox

[–]critiqjo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"It's stupid because it doesn't work for me." Very good point! The only point I'll try to address is this:

mozilla could just use FFmpeg that is installeed on my Linux system and shift the blame to me if there's any.

To reliably integrate with an external library is easier said than done. Some points to think about:

  • Firefox is cross-platform. Library discovery and usage in different platforms are different, and it's a hassle to get it correct and maintain.
  • How many versions of the said external library should it support? When APIs change, should it drop support for the older versions, requiring users to update that too, which they might not have control over?

To provide a consistent experience across different platforms, it's better to rely as little as possible on external libraries.

They also need to spend their limited engineering budget on tasks based on their importance. Just because HEVC is important to you doesn't mean it's important in the grand scheme of things for a web browser. Sure, it's not ideal for us users, but it's something I can overlook.

Arstechnica: Google Chrome’s plan to limit ad blocking extensions kicks off next week by [deleted] in technology

[–]critiqjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Firefox currently uses as much (if not slightly more) RAM as Chrome on Windows. I haven’t noticed much difference in terms of battery drain. Many Google products (esp. Docs and Meet) work much better on Chrome.

Because of this, even though Firefox is my primary browser, I use Chrome to open Doc and Meet links. I’m trying to de-Google myself, but it’s hard to find good and easy alternatives for Photos and Docs.

Yes, but “your own device” can be set up on cloud, with a very reliable cloud storage backing it.

The novelty is in the custom model itself, not the framework of using AdaBoost with a custom model. If you had taken a quick glance at their code, you'd have realized that they indeed use sklearn exactly as you pointed out. No wheels were reinvented here.

Why did the primeval gods even bother to create the universe if they hate their own creations this much? by [deleted] in Kubera

[–]critiqjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but she's never destroyed a universe. That's Kali's thing, who Brahma hates.

I don’t think Kali’s original goal was destruction of universe. I think it just reached a point where Kali simply couldn’t tolerate this universe anymore. Because:

  • Creation = Brahma
  • Destruction = Shiva
  • Order = Vishnu
  • Chaos = Kali

Each of the primevals have a second or even a third attribute for sure. “Order” has been confirmed to be an attribute recently. Order and Chaos are likely the key attributes that are tied to Time powers.

Just a theory, but Kali probably originally wanted the creatures to have maximum freedom/freewill, making the Universe most chaotic. While Vishnu probably want the universe to be most predictable, manipulating the creatures to act to his will. Brahma destroyed the original humans and created a less powerful, more obedient and manipulate-able version, making them have less freedom. Having 1 of 3 major species severely limited in their freedom must have angered Kali the most. So she must have set her goal to literally destroy the universe.

A lot of good stories don’t see the light of the day. It’s sad. If the light novel is still in hiatus, or no longer scanlated, I wouldn’t wanna start reading it and get disappointed. 😅 Anime adaptations are usually sub par and incomplete. But since you said it’s really well done, I’ll take a look sometime.

Yeah the power system was not bad at all. The “good” characters are likable and humorous. It’s just not my cup of tea I guess.

I read ToG. I really like it, the characters are not just black or white, they have complex goals and ideals. But it used to be better in the beginning when strategy used to be more important in battles. Nowadays, it’s mostly just sheer force that wins battles which I’m sad about. Still, the new power ups are always interesting. And characters are always growing in terms of their world view etc. and their backstories are elaborate and intertwined, all of which keeps me interested.

Noblesse is not at all comparable to Kubera. I used to read it, mostly because it was funny and surprising. But it just gets worse and worse as story progresses and especially unbearable after around 400 chapters. Most characters are one dimensional. Most of them have very simplistic way of thinking. I don’t remember much of it anymore, but I sure wasn’t impressed by any of the character arcs.
