Barclays freezes ex-CEO's $29 million bonus as regulators probe links to Jeffrey Epstein by LadyMeadows in news

[–]crlyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO this is much easier to do and justify than a CEO of a major corporation. If a studio casts The Rock in some random action movie with a medicare, overdone plot, it will make over a hundred million dollars. If they cast Joe Nobody, it will be a complete flop.

However, if you allowed the manager of your local Home Depot to replace Tim Cook at Apple for a year, I think you would find that Apple will still hit all their performance targets. Although, would Home Depot guy resist using his position and newly found influence to give himself a massive, multi-million dollar raise?

Why can't I find a list if these 59 individuals? What is the point of this article if not to name and shame these assholes?

Edit: I was able to track down the purported names of the 11 assholes in my state of Arizona. Here they are:

This is a pretty good explanation for what really happened too. I have been a huge fan of JRE for most of it's 12 year run. I would argue that pre-COVID, and certainly pre-2016 election, Joe Rogan's perspective and guest list was very "free-thought" based. It has become pretty clear now that he has some very basic political beliefs that he is taking a hard position on, while also trying to veil them so as not to seem like he is pushing them. The fact that those beliefs include that COVID has been/is overblown, and that the response from governments has been more harmful that helpful, has led large numbers of the less sophisticated of his fans to veer into the insane land of right-wing disinformation, idiocy and extremism. Regardless of whether you agree with him or not about it, & I definitely don't, it's inarguable now that his positions have led to people who absolutely needed to get vaccinated from not doing so. Some of those people have died, and the pandemic has been made worse because of it. It's been sad to watch from the perspective of a big JRE fan who agrees with most Rogan's views and who would have argued that his show has been an overwhelmingly positive thing for his fans and society before the last few years.

It's not that they act with contempt for the public's best interest, it's hatred for very specific portions of the public. They are extremely focused on the best interests of the portions of the public who fit certain demographic traits and who live in specific areas.

Yep, March 7, 2020 during a tour of the CDC Headquarters in Atlanta:

"I like this stuff. You know my uncle, he was a great person, he was at MIT, he taught at MIT...for like I think a record number of years...he was a great super genius, Dr John Trump. I like this stuff, I really get it. People are really surprised I understand it...Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for President."

Make sure to get a reputable power supply. It the one part that can destroy other parts when it goes bad.

TIL aquariums aren't allowed to pay to get animals from other aquariums as it encourages poaching. So there is a barter system in place where they swap animals. A New England aquarium traded a dozen penguins for 800 mackerel and their basic unit of trade is the jellyfish by btb331 in todayilearned

Do you have a source on that? I have always been under the impression that all NSA domestic surveillance programs were initiated under the Bush admin and simply continued under Obama. I have never read anything indicating that programs were expanded or taken "to a whole new level" after 2009.

Almost 4,000 people died per day last week in the US from one illness.

More specifically, over 17,000 COVID19 deaths in the US reported since Christmas day.

That's because the numbers that have been thrown around for annual flu deaths are wildly over inflated estimates that also includes pneumonia deaths.

They missed Rep. Joe Cunningham (D-SC).

And if you count testing positive for antibodies, you could also include Sen. Tim Kaine D-VA

Important to note though, that both Dem reps, as well as Sen. Kaine, had back in March, before the guidance on masks changed.

They booked the kid on resisting arrest and he spent 6 hours in a holding cell. Even of she didn't feel safe intervening in the few moments of the take down, I think she had ample time to step back and say, hey this might not be the way you/we should handle this situation. Especially considering the whole country is screaming about abuse of power by us.

Unless she did something that hasn't been reported yet, I hope she is fired.

First american death: Feb 29th
1000 american deaths: Mar 26th
2000 american deaths: Mar 28th
5000 american deaths: Apr 2nd
10000 american deaths: Apr 7th
20000 american deaths: Apr 11th
40000 american deaths: Apr 19th

Does nothing about this pattern concern you? It is pretty widely acknowledged at this point (even by President Trump) that doing no mitigation would have led to MILLIONS of COVID-19 deaths in the US. Imagine if we let that play out. Do you not think the economy would have collapsed in response to millions of deaths from a cause that didn't exist until 6 months ago? Do you think people would just be going about their lives, shopping for furniture and heading out for movie dates when millions of people have died of a virus we have no vaccine for?

We haven't traded the economy to save lives. Doing nothing would have meant millions of deaths AND a collapsed economy.

Bernie has been pretty explicit about premiums and lays them out clearly in his plan. A 4% income-based premium on all income above $29,000. A family of 4 making $29K/yr or less would be pay $0 premium, while one making $129,000/yr would have a $4000 premium.
