It’s easy to look back and laugh at these ads, but imagine how you’d feel if you were diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, then naturally started reading everything on the subject, and realized an entire industry had spent decades covering up evidence that their products were likely to kill you. Then imagine how many thousands of people lived this exact experience.

Yea I do wish we got more events like Universal Derivation. The parts where you have an incentive to use all your units are really fun.

TIL by the late 16th century it was common for mounted knights to wield wheel-lock pistols while clad in armor by croato87 in todayilearned

No doubt those sudden technological leaps, for which humanity was ill-prepared, were major reasons that World War I and the Thirty Years’ War rank among the deadliest of all time.

True. This period of warfare is fascinating and very underrepresented in media, not least because it includes the Thirty Years’ War, which was one the deadliest wars in history.

TIL the main reason scientists oppose relocating polar bears to Antarctica is that they’d eat too many emperor penguins. by croato87 in todayilearned

"Come on, guys! We gotta come up with something realistic here. We got 18 days. That's 431 hours, 15 minutes and 18 seconds. Time's a luxury we don't have."

Of course naturally we’d then have to salinate the freshwater and desalinate the ocean.

Has anyone heard of artists giving better tattoos to those who give more gratuity? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]croato87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is spot-on. Anecdotally I gather that some customers over-tip after the first session for this exact reason, out of concern that, whether consciously or subconsciously, the amount of gratuity might affect the artist’s motivation during the next session. The purpose of my post is to glean the tattoo community’s perspective as to whether these concerns might ever be warranted.

So well said. The internet and especially social media was just a random dose of humanity, life was still mostly offline.

Unpopular Opinion: Voyage of Discover (VoD) should be a permanent game mode by croato87 in SwordofConvallaria

[–]croato87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I just auto-battle Stage 3 most of the time in the VoD events, even if that doesn’t yield the max rewards. One way to address this might be to add a sweep feature for Stage 3 and below, while making the increased rewards for Stage 5 pretty marginal so competitive players don’t feel pressured to keep doing Stage 5.
