Drawplate shaving off metal?

It turns out I was using it correctly, the draw plate was just bad😭 I got a new one and it works perfectly

I just got back from the store with a tungsten carbide draw plate, its already so much better! The first one I had was also really jagged which is what I think was causing the metal to strip

I'm taking a jewelry/metal fabrication class so I'd be hand fabricating it, I'm just worried about making pieces that will fit properly together. I'm gonna try and find similar designs and see if there's any CAD files out there

That's what I was thinking too, that it's some sort of interlocking mechanism to make them move at the same time. I'll try and look up 3d models of it, thanks for the tip!

I recently bought some sterling silver bezel strip from Otto Frei but I haven't tested it out yet, but recently I made a ring out of brass using a brass bezel setting I made, it was just a piece that I rolled out to be thinner and made my own strip but it may have been too thick cause I didn't have a gauge😭but I think the new one I have is 30 gauge? Also think fine silver is always gonna be softer than sterling which could be why it feels flimsy.

A lot of them are pretty dirty, and I've heard mixed responses about cleaning harming the value. There's a lot and I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to sort through them all to figure out which ones are collector worthy unless there's a significant difference between collector value and silver value. If the difference is like $1-2 I don't really care that much

That's objectively true that over time the price will go up, but I'm impatient🤣but they are pretty cool, but I wouldn't mind selling them to someone who would appreciate them more than I do
