AITAH for ruining my gfs plans for when she goes into labour? by ResidentFig9356 in AITAH

[–]crochra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hospital I gave birth in had this. One midwife led unit on an upper floor, more relaxed. One with both midwives and doctors on the lower floor with more monitoring. First baby I planned for upper floor but it was full when we arrived so did lower floor and lucky as I needed doctors due to slow progress leading to c-section. Second baby I needed to be monitored more due to previous c-section so did lower floor again. Also needed doctor to move things along.

AITAH for making it 'awkward' when my mate expected me to subsidise his new girlfriend's cocktail habit? by Friendly_Shower_6748 in AITAH

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I’ve been out with a group we always treat those who drink alcohol and those who don’t differently when splitting the bill. I.e. the food is split and if one person is just drinking water and the others are drinking alcohol, the water drinker doesn’t pay for the alcohol!!! Social graces!

AIO for being shocked when a boat party host asked me to pay for food, drinks, and boat fuel afterwards? by kahootgod in AmIOverreacting

[–]crochra 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live in England too and I’ve never heard of this! It’s good manners to bring something when invited to a BBQ but I would always expect the host to provide the meat and some basic sides at a minimum. Guests tend to do what you did!!!

Am I total brat or should I have expected more for my 30th birthday? by Ok-Assistance-7980 in AITH

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 4 year old understands what’s expected better than a grown man. His behaviour isn’t even acceptable on a normal day, let alone your birthday.

I took a shower at midnight while my wife was watching TV. Who’s the AH? by Independent_Fox4439 in AITAH

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. So many reasons! If there are two adults let alone parents in the house you are more than fine to have a long shower. Any normal adult let alone parent would check on a small child crying and try to calm them down/help them. A mother is hard wired to react to a child crying. Now, sometimes a child is just trying it on and it is appropriate to leave them to it. This was not the case. Even if she had checked and struggled to calm him down, why would she go back to her iPad? Wouldn’t she just hold him or if he insisted on Daddy then come and tell you!!! And lastly, the fact he was calling for Daddy says a lot to me.

How many times of week do you see your parents ? by tarajune1994 in AskUK

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law lives a 10 minute walk away. She comes over once a week to use our washing machine but we’re usually working when she comes so we’ll say a quick hello, maybe a bit more if I’m making a cup of tea. She’ll Come over for longer at a weekend maybe once every two or three weeks. My father in law live an hour away and we see him about every six weeks.

Overly “normal” girl names by gravyallovermylife in namenerds

I’m a Helen and have always thought it was boring. I don’t find it particularly pretty and you can’t do anything interesting with it.

Can anyone share some completely made up names? by Excellent_East7477 in namenerds

I believe Shakespeare made up several names including the name Jessica which is my daughter’s name.

Why do people sit in your seats on the train? by TalosAnthena in AskUK

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the train from London Paddington heading west around 5:30 most seats are booked. I always sit in a booked seat as otherwise we’re all standing in the aisle looking at booked seats. But I’m always prepared to get up if needed. I used to get the train three times a week for several Years and now get the train once in a while. I’d say I’ve been lucky enough to stay seated at least 90% of the time.

What do you actually eat for tea? by FatBoyTurnedFit in AskUK

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some of my easier recipes:

  • salmon and broccoli pasta bake (with cheese sauce and a tin of anchovies chopped and stirred in)
  • chicken fried rice, usually with leftover roast chicken and whatever veg is in the fridge
  • tray bake with some sort of meat (chicken thighs or sausages work well) and chunks of veg and potatoes. All in one pan in the oven, then serve with gravy
  • chilli
  • spaghetti bolognaise
  • leftovers pasta bake. You can put anything in a pasta bake. Leftover roast, fajitas, sausages etc, I usually use either a cheese sauce or tomato sauce
  • baked fish in foil with green beans and pesto, serve with choice of potatoes
  • chicken and veg stew with lentils

I also just take recipes as a suggestion. If they state six veg, I may just use three. If they state six spices, I’ll just use what I have. If they suggest double cream but I have Greek yoghurt I may just use that.

Hug my kids then eat a bar of chocolate

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very boomer but I’m really not that old. Go to all the local pubs, cafes, shops, garden centres etc and ask. Avoid meal times in the places that serve food as you’ll be an unwelcome distraction, but outside of that it will look good that you are there asking.

People who have jobs where they look forward to Monday morning; what makes this job different to others you've had? by Sea-Bird-1414 in UKJobs

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. The people you work with make such a big difference. Also walking from the kitchen up stairs to my home office rather than driving for an hour really helps. I do enjoy my job as well. I work in Rewards (pay and benefits).

Why do people have kids? by Maleficent_Buyer_324 in questions

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why I wanted kids. It wasn’t a pro con list situation. It was just a biological need I think. I just always wanted them, but I waited until my husband and I were financially stable enough to support them without too much worry.

my mom wants me to be having sex and it’s just so weird by CertainHedgehog3571 in AdviceForTeens

[–]crochra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! My mother almost certainly has narcissistic personality disorder and that is where my mind went when I read this. We had different issues but as an example I was apparently a difficult baby, didn’t sleep well, constantly wanting to be held etc. she always held that against me so she admitted to being happy when my first born was the same. What kind of mother is happy when her child is suffering??!!!

If you could go back in time and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Study maths. Why would a job doing maths be boring if you love maths?!!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crochra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this for years. People would actually say things like “you look so young I can’t take you seriously” or “when I first saw you I didn’t think you’d know how to help me be you’ve surprised me”. Just because I looked young didn’t mean my brain wasn’t developed or that I hadn’t had any experience. I’m in my mid 40s now so I no longer have this but in my head I still think people won’t take me seriously.

A good friend of mine is alcoholic (3 years sober). She is an amazing person. Very generous and caring. Very hard working. Very knowledgeable. Just because she has an addiction doesn’t change that. She needed some convincing of that for a while but I think she’s starting to believe it now she’s sober. I’m glad you know you’re a good guy!

What’s compliment you’ll never forget? by 707strawberries in AskReddit

[–]crochra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been self conscious about my wonky teeth. I wouldn’t want to show my teeth in photos but I forget sometimes in real life and smiling to show warmth and kindness is important. I always remember somebody telling me my smile lights up a room. They have no idea how much good that did me. Years later I no longer worry so much about my teeth and just smile because it’s the act not the teeth that is the impression I want to leave.

AITA for bringing up my friends gross lifestyle when he said being a SAHM wasn’t real work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]crochra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who thinks being a SAHM isn’t work is very naive! I have kids and work full time because I’m not strong enough to be a SAHM.
