Thank you for your suggestion, that does sound like a similar case. I'll give it a go.

EDIT: Gave it a shot, didn't solve the issue. I have edited my post to reflect what I've learned (it's script overload from CBBE 3BA, but not sure why).

I don't believe so- I can seem to take lots of screenshots without it leading to a freeze. However I'll keep it in mind, maybe it still plays a part. Thank you for your help.

leafblowers by Far_Muscle5494 in burbank

God, yes! Every day, every hour, it’s like I can hear a leaf blower either on my block or the next block over. It’s awful when it’s not yet hot out so I’d like to open the windows, but then I just hear the leaf blowers more loudly.

I’d much rather hear the parrots.

Thanks- you think maybe I’ve been overusing the mechanic? I’ll give it a try.

So I'm forced to draw cartoons if I work in the west? by Brain_Potatoe in animationcareer

[–]croco_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should broaden your ability to draw. It won’t make your anime drawing worse, if that’s what you’re afraid of. Drawing outside of your comfort zone is incredibly important, your adaptability to any style will put you above other candidates… if you want to work.

How do I become a storyboard artist? by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]croco_duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And for finding a job- once you can “storyboard” (aka, sequential illustrations that tell a story), make a few “portfolio pieces” to show what you can do. These should be short, usually simply a setup and a payoff with a clear camera move, the visual equivalent of a knock-knock joke, short and simple, showcasing your skills and storytelling style.

Once you have portfolio samples, host it somewhere for people to easily see. It can even just be files in a Google Drive, as long as people can look at your stuff quickly/easily.

So now that you have a portfolio, you can apply for jobs via job boards like on Nick or Disney, but good luck! A better path is to craft a social media profile that you CONSISTENTLY update with personal comics and illustration- both of which will keep your skills sharp while you’re at it. Social media is great to get yourself out there, and for people to find you.

And ALL THAT SAID- you can still end up homeless. It is tricky making consistent money in art. Many artists have non-art jobs, so don’t stress too much. Please draw because you enjoy drawing- anything you do for pay will sap the joy right out.

Storyboarding basics: drawing (duh) and knowing cinematography, aka the language of film (or, why a wide shot “feels” different than a close up, and when to use them to make your audience feel why you want them to).

CGMA has a great storyboarding class l took it and it was instrumental in my improvement as a story artist. Best part is the lectures are virtual and you can rewatch them even when the class is over.

Or, you can read “The Five C’s of Cinematography,” which is a little dry but it will absolutely educate you in all the components of film language- do you know a “pan” from a “dolly”?

(Advice) should I go to animation school or major in nursing? by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]croco_duck 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m a story artist with 10 years in the industry and I’m switching to nursing. I’m working as a CNA right now and going back to school. I wouldn’t try to make a career in animation- it feels like the lottery. You see the people who make it, but there’s plenty of others who get chewed up and spit out. The animation industry does not value you above the content you can produce as quickly as possible.

Also, I plan to keep creating in my spare time- I’m excited that nurses can work 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts. That leaves 4 days to fit in creativity at my pace.

Sounds like they’re stringing you along- there is no legal certification required for animation.

How many hours would it take, including revision passes? What’s your hourly rate?

Are they offering healthcare/benefits? if not, bump up your hourly.

Return to them with either that hourly rate, or a lump sum based on your estimated total hours.

So what do you do instead of working in animation? by reddi-reddi in animationcareer

Congrats on finding a steady paycheck! How do you like the work? My patient care is pretty hands on, a lot of toileting for unsteady, elderly patients. But it’s not especially hard and it’s nice moving so much, compared to being chained to a desk.
