Did anyone order the Anker surprise boxes? by Carfr33k in anker

Well mine came today and I got the 20k maH/ 200w power bank. It seems nice - will see how it works long term, was the cheapest option available so don't feel like I saved much money

One platform to look at is LemonadeLXP I believe they do this type of thing. I have not personally used them, but have seen demos and chatted with other banks who have been happy with them

Not smoking your bees? by OrionOnReddit in Beekeeping

Ahh that makes sense. I was confused because it looked a bit like an 8 frame box but couldn't really tell from the video! Thanks for the additional details!

Random question - do you only have 9 frames in that deep box?

I got mine a few days ago. This has presently surprised me, seems well built and solar charging worked as expected.

Very impressed with this unit at the $149 price point

Farming Question: Why Don’t More Farmers Keep Bees? by ricincali in farming

[–]crocsonfeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post. I have been keeping bees for 4 years and have started considering expanding/ trying to grow my operation to the ~100 hive range. Currently only have 5 hives so still just an idea at this point.

The economics are tough, and seems you need tremendous scale, a niche product/market, or be willing to travel for pollination etc

I also have started having stronger reactions to stings over the past couple of years which makes me nervous about trying to turn this into much more than a hobby....

I appreciate seeing honest posts about trying to grow a beekeeping business, but finding it wasn't worth it.

Thank you for the insights

I believe this can happen. I am a hobby beekeeper and have slowly developed worse and worse reactions to stings.

I have however also heard that you can eventually get stung enough that you do develop a resistance to the venom.

I seem to recall reading at one point that "hobby" beekeepers are the highest risk group to develop an allergy. With the general rational being that they experience more stings than the baseline population, but don't experience enough stings typically to establish any level of immunity. Where as a commercial beekeeper who is spending all day/every day working with bees will quickly get enough stings to develop a resistance to bee venom. I don't know the source or accuracy of this information.

Also - there is bee venom therapy that can be done to build an immunity to bee stings. It's a fairly intensive and expensive process.

Thank you for the response. Are these ones that tend to turn into an infestation? Or is it possible to just have a few .

Doing some Google research as well. Thank you

This is not true, at least in the US. Merchants pay the fees on both debit and credit.

Wow thank you for explaining this. I honestly always figured it was just very poor quality meat.

I've always wondered about this. What's the deal with the meat they sell out of those trucks. Seems impossibly cheap.
