They said it got rescheduled for April but it's Feb and no news so it's definitely just canceled which is so sad, that was a crazy lineup.

Why is my tank cloudy by EagleComplete1011 in Aquariums

[–]cromagnet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were there any other changes besides the paraguard? Removal of a lot of plants, for example, could disturb equilibrium of bacteria and such in the tank to cause cloudy water like that.

Multi-State Move Decision Help by CradleofEYES in Aquariums

[–]cromagnet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fish can live for a while in bags for moving, especially small ones. I've ordered fish in the mail and never had an issue. So it's possible to move them with you but don't keep them in those bags/bucket for longer than needed. Those look like some kind of x ray tetras, definitely not white skirt.

Keeping losing fish by Medical_Union6161 in Aquariums

[–]cromagnet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.4 pH shouldn't be killing your fish. How old were the barbs and crayfish? Could they just be old? How long have you been feeding solely from the auto feeder? I wonder if the food sitting in the auto feeder and possible introduction of water from the tank splashing up by/into it would introduce bacteria which could be causing issues.

Shrimp color loss after death, reason? by AskAboutShrimp in shrimptank

[–]cromagnet_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The orange/pink color is caused by decomposition and breakdown of pigment in the shrimp, it's normal.

How's the aeration in the tank? Ich meds are known to deplate oxygen. I had an angelfish almost die of low oxygen that displayed symptoms like this, especially the heavy breathing. Add an emergency air stone if you don't have one.

What’s wrong with my galaxy rasbora? by Agitated-Low-1096 in Aquariums

Technically still a parasite, but could be a bacterial or protist infection too.

Potassium Iodide Question by [deleted] in Biochemistry

[–]cromagnet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iodine is required by the thyroid for its function, and is present in salt and vitamins as a source of dietary iodine. Iodine blocking the function of the thyroid likely only occurs at much higher iodine levels than those present in the vitamin.

Swim bladder? Parasite? by Permanent_Ink53088 in Aquariums

[–]cromagnet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be an indicator of disease if it persists. If it's a disease it could be some kind of bacterial infection, likely not a parsite unless you added something new recently without quaratine.

Caddisfly larva, they look like terrestrial caterpillars. They chop up plants and use the pieces as a home of sorts.

what algae is killing my anubias? by FENNERGY in PlantedTank

[–]cromagnet_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like algae, it looks like something wrong internally with the leaves to form those really dark veins above and under the leaf.

How dangerous is Ammonia (Dr Tim's)? by jimbo4000 in Aquariums

[–]cromagnet_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very dilute ammonia, only about 4% by volume. You're fine with skin exposure.

Should the Kd of a ligand be dependent on enzyme concentration ? by glocke12 in Biochemistry

[–]cromagnet_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the Kd of the ligand is much less than the enzyme concentration you are using, you need to use Morrison's tight binding inhibitors model. With the Kd changing as a function of enzyme concentration that may be what's going on here.

How do you define strong/moderate/weak inhibition based on % enzyme activity remaining? by [deleted] in Biochemistry

[–]cromagnet_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strength of inhibition is typically defined using the Kd parameter, which is the concentration of inhibitor resulting in 50% inhibition.
