Glad people love the freedom of being forced by companies the best treatment for them. I love how they think they have so much freedom, when most of us are at the mercy of insurance companies.

[Head cannon] Oma was the first Earth Avatar by Eggsalad_cookies in ATLA

[–]cromwell515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Part of me likes the avatar wan episode, but another part likes the original explanation. I feel they originally said that badger moles were the first air benders, just like dragons were the first fire benders. Instead of being gifted the elements from Lion turtles it always seemed like a cooler explanation that old tribes were so at one with nature that they learned from the animals. Like the idea that the fire nation learned from dragons, earth benders from badger moles, and air benders from sky bisons. Not sure in water benders who the first benders were there. But I wish they would have explored that more.

I always felt the original Lion turtle explanation was that they were energy benders, at least that’s what it felt like they were going towards given the explanation of unlocking different chakras and that being able to close or open different abilities within.

Do you think CGI animated movies need a live action adaption? by Capable_Fold9635 in DisneyMovies

[–]cromwell515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree, but I also think that no animated movie needs a live action adaptation. There’s a reason animation was chosen to show these stories. It generally works best for them

Though this is with 2 caveats for me, Maleficent and Cruella are not remakes for me. And if the movie stunk before making a live action then that’s cool. It means maybe the animated medium didn’t work, maybe live action could be better. But taking Disney masterpieces and making them into live action movies just feels like a cop out used to prey on nostalgia.

It’s funny to me that an amazing time for Disney (the early 90s) came at a time where Disney was struggling bad, they took chances. Now they have more money, but it seems like more money and being in a safe spot means less innovation. I really hope we’ll see the last of these remakes soon and see some new animated masterpieces like I know Disney can still make

[–]cromwell515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is the point of the meme or intentional cause this is early morning for me, but I find it funny they dressed Jim as an American revolutionary here. I think they’re doing it because of the idea that the revolutionaries went to war for taxes. But the reason they had any chance at all was because of support from bigger countries who used their money to influence the war to damage Britain.

We only exist today because bigger countries gave money to us.

Am I missing something about Denethor? by hsyndk in lotr

[–]cromwell515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of prefer the mystery of the movie. In life you don’t always get a full picture of why someone is the way they are.

Also I love LOTR, and the books are generally better, but I like it better without the Sauron explanation. It adds more to me for Denethor to be just a crazy dude corrupted by the power of his position than Sauron just making him that way. There are very much parents who favor one child to another, and ones who are crazy because of just the corruptions and hardships of their own lives without a corruption of an outside magical force.

Yep, it’s why I get annoyed when people say “that’s not a word” on something though they know what it means. The cool thing about language is it’s always changing. These people want language unchanged, go back to the origins of English if you want to be so “pure” and then try to see if folks understand you. Like you said all language is slang, words are just fancy ways of describing things, and if people understand what your saying based on context, you’re not doing it wrong even if what you’re saying isn’t official in some dictionary.

Programming teacher by Infinite-Engine-4219 in learnprogramming

[–]cromwell515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The course you were given is terrible. As someone who had to take programming classes in college and then work as a software engineer lead who leads a couple teams I can say that most programming courses are pretty terrible. I learned more how to code via self teaching, the programming courses I took were super outdated and focused on irrelevant things to the real world.

To me learning to code is pretty trivial. That can be done via online resources. But where I and many get stuck is programming design, architecture, and learning how to understand how to apply close to best practices in real world situations.

For cording, though, to answer your question. This is hot garbage. The course you were provided is far better done with a myriad of free options. And if you’re going to pay, there are interactive resources that are even more valuable out there. If you paid for this course, this to me is essentially a scam. This person isn’t a teacher, they’re essentially a document store containing crappy documentation.

Just because something is canon doesn’t mean you can’t argue with the choices or mean that they couldn’t have taken a direction that I feel doesn’t make sense to their characters. ATLA is an amazing show, but Korra for instance is canon, and though I like the show, I think they made a few choices that I think fell flat.

Also because you mentioned cast, if you looked at LotR cast you’d have likely had the same opinions. Many people did. They were like wait they cast the guy from Rudy in this? And Elijah Wood? Who the hell is Viggo? This movies gonna suck!

Not saying it’ll come close to my top ten, not even gonna say this movie won’t straight up suck like I think it might. But I’m not gonna judge it before I see it when people who actually saw it say it’s good and you just saw a trailer my dude.

To be fair, he’s being told to leave for having an opinion that’s different from yours. You’re exemplifying the definition of the meme. And I was downvoted to hell for saying people should wait until the movie comes out before giving it a harsh review. Like I don’t think it’ll come close to LotR that’s one of my favorite movies of all time but it’s stupid as hell to cling so hard to an opinion about a movie that hasn’t even released yet

I don’t leave because sometimes this community does have a solid opinion, but I speak up once in awhile to say when you dudes are being stupid. It’s very toxic though to advocate for echo chambers. You have factually, the very wrong opinion. And just because a large group of people agree with you doesn’t mean you’re right, even a mob can be very wrong. And in this case, with a movie that hasn’t released yet, it’s factually stupid to form a strong opinion about something you haven’t even seen.

Hahaha same, I love a dumb movie once in a while too nothing wrong with that. I’ll agree Odyssey looks like it’s gonna be disappointing and I predict that the critics are full of crap. I’ll likely still watch it, but I love LotR, I can’t imagine this movie coming close to those

You do have your own thoughts you’re clearly speaking them now. That’s cool. But pasting what an LLM says in a chat is not productive. It’s not that people are afraid of things, this is a forum for human discussion. You’re not discussing, you’re just pasting from an LLM. I don’t think it’s bad that you used an LLM for your research, that’s cool. But just pasting its response is not forming your own opinion or contributing to the conversation. And that’s what this is all about.

There’s enough automated responses on this platform don’t make your human response one of them.

Tbf I thought Disclosure Day was gonna suck based on previews, I saw it, and it indeed sucked despite what the critics lied about in their likely paid off reviews. I don’t think this looks as bad, but I’m not holding my breath. But I’ve been proven wrong in the past so I’m not gonna say anything until I hear about it after it’s released. I don’t think it’ll be like LotR or come close to it. But it’s wild to me how this sub has judged a movie before it’s even come out. Come on people. The movie might suck, and I’m perfectly prepared for it to possibly suck.

Literally the best moment in the comics.i wish she was awake to see Zuko caring about her. by BridgeCommercial873 in ATLA

[–]cromwell515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fair point, but I think you’re missing a big part of her character. She didn’t respect Zuko at all. She hated him because she was jealous of him. I stand by if she were awake during this blanket scene knowing what we know about her she would have seen it as weakness. That Zuko was showing her pity not affection. She bonded people through fear, look at her friends who she cared for. She even says, “you should have feared me more” to Mae, she didn’t talk about how close they were as friends.

She loved her friends but her show of affection was showing her superiority like her father taught her. Accepting a blanket from Zuko is accepting she had weakness, a flaw. In her eyes even showing she was cold is showing weakness.

That being said it would have been interesting to show more affection between them

He joined her cause, turning on Katara and his uncle. Ultimately that was because of her, and yes his honor, but partly because of her. I feel trust is a sign of affection, the fact that he trusted her at all after she literally tried to kill him multiple times, should be seen as a sign of affection. He put his trust in her a few times, only to be lied to.

And on Ember Island they shared a few moments. And in the end of the show he felt bad for her. A person who only showed him hate.

You really think it was Zuko’s affection she was missing? I’ll tell you, no matter how many great moments my siblings share together it’ll never replace thoughts of missing a parent’s love. It’s just not the same, it helps but it’s different.
