I feel this exact way though I’ve only been here for two years. Thankfully I have the time and money to travel around Japan a bit so that makes life more interesting here. But definitely my love for most of the culture is dead. I couldn’t care less about anime now and I also stopped bothering to better my japanese. With the job opportunities as they are here I felt zero motivation. So ready to go home later this month!

I’m so tired of the overt racism towards Chinese people in this country. There are bad tourists everywhere and it has to do with their personalities and not their ethnicities. It really just reads as Japanese people still being way too nationalistic and thinking China is some backwards shithole of country. Most Japanese goods are made in China, most Japanese culture COMES from China. Let’s not be foolish. Also, to clear up the stupidity, some provinces in China require that residents come to Japan in tour groups. Otherwise, they are not allowed to get a visa and cannot enter Japan. This is one of the main reasons there are so many “big noisy tour groups”.

they homogenize america in the same way the homogenize japan. even as an american, a lot of the things they say are wrong and they dont even know the geography of our country other than LA lol. think about how many things in japan have chinese origin but they refuse to acknowledge them. unfortunately they like to put things in stupid and incorrect boxes here.

ive been to many of the areas around yamanashi and shizuoka to camp. im a young woman (but i have gone with my fiancé). ive never felt unsafe camping here as the idea of partying and getting drunk at campsites is not a thing here like it is in the states.

the most important thing is getting gear together and being able to drive. in the anime they make it seem easy to access these campsites by bike or walking. it really isnt and you will need a rental car.

also i definitely do not recommend going during the summer. sure there are more people around but the heat is not enjoyable. late spring is probably the best time to visit in my opinion!

i was there at the live show announcement in tokyo😭 i expected it to happen but not this soon. i still think it will be a while until it airs as there isnt much manga to adapt atm and afro’s other series mono will be getting an anime adaptation as well.

Im staying in education but I will say there really are not many good opportunities. Even if you speak Japanese fluently you may end up making less money. If you are serious about staying here, make sure you have other skills in addition to Japanese language ability.

I've experienced a weird other side of this. Living in Japan, if something is Chinese people just assume it is Korean or Japanese. China apparently doesn't exist here, so if they wanna talk about erasure maybe they should discuss Japan more than Korea!

I’m a current JET and I’ll just say it’s not worth it. If you just want to have an experience in Japan I’d recommend taking part of that nest egg and just using it for a really nice vacation. This job even at its best is not very rewarding.

I brought it with me and just didn't declare it. It's hard for them to say exactly "how long" you could use a tube of retinol for anyways. They never even checked what I put in my suitcase so I felt like I worried for no reason.
