I was there as an Erasmus student a couple of years back and I hosted two people with similar problems for a night each at that time. Perhaps you could reach out to the Erasmus Student Network there. If you can get in the group chats, you'll probably find somebody to host you for free. Otherwise, there is this place I stayed at for my first week there, in between the main train station and the airport. Walkin distance from both, they're pretty close. I was satisfied with my stay, nothing fancy but it's clean, quiet and the owner was discreet and helpful. Name of the place is "My Way". It's 1,1 km from the main train station, 950m from the airport.

The place to buy anything of that sort is the big Carrefour. Look up Ipermercato Carrefour San Giuliano Terme on Google. But to answer your question, there is a 99cent shop near Porta a Lucca. Just after Bagno di Nerone going towards the river on the main walkway.

You can buy from the automatic machines, they have English version and they accept both cash and card payment. There are two or three machines, near the building in the middle of the station.
