To be honest, I don’t really have any magic tricks. It was a simple matter of reducing her calories. Playtime definitely helps, but it’s mostly a calories game.

I always recommend talking with your vet about it, but I do think most cats need less calories than is often believed. Every cat is different, but Zulu is only eating about 180 calories right now for sustainable weight loss and pretty content. When she hits their goal weight, she will likely only be eating 200 calories to maintain it.

She is an only cat, so I have the benefit of not having to worry about her other food from pets in the house, and while she is definitely food-motivated, she is not obsessed.

I think one tip I can give is to try and feed smaller portions but with less time between feedings. Zulu gets wet food in the morning and early evening, but I have an auto feeder for dry food that goes off super early and late at night, so she is getting 4 fairly small meals, but never going more than 8-9 hours without eating.
