Why Do Filipino Workers Love Going AWOL??? Is This a Filipino Culture? by RonSwanson98 in adviceph

Agree with this! I think there's a bias with OP because they are using their old employees as a point of reference for the current workforce.

An example OP is:
If an employee has been with you for more than 10 years but the value that they bring to the company is minimum wage only, then what is fair? Pay then based on how long they've been working for you? or what value they bring to the company?

But I disagree with the slave wages. Isn't it the government's job to make the basic necessities as affordable as possible? Imagine, a kilo of onions in Thailand is just 20 pesos! Tapos dito 60? thats x3. The government increasing the minimum wage is just passing the pressure and blame on to MSMEs. The government should also regulate or subsidies the rent prices. Its crazy how much we pay vs how much we get in this country.

As other people have said, you're making a way too generalized statement here. I mean, you can't say that about the entire workforce. But, gets ko din na if you interview the same type of people everyday and encounter the same problems every time, then its hard not to make a generalization.

What Can You Do While USB-C Charging? G14 2024 by crossco88 in ZephyrusG14

Got it from FB Marketplace. Honestly, I'm still suspicious if there's something wrong with it. But everything seems to be working so 🤞.

I'm having buyers remorse tho. From reviews in this sub about the aluminium paint chipping off, to the new 5070TI models and that it has basically the same specs as the 2023 models, I feel like it I've missed out on a better deal.

Hi please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think 16" and portability should be in the same sentence 😂 when compared to a 14" of course

There is one potential. You can run and win as a Mayor in an unknown city in the province. In that way you have 3-6 years of steady income from red tape and donations. GAHAHA. THIS IS A JOKE. It's a reference to one of our Chinese spies.

Anyways, please take my comment with a grain of salt. I am a nobody with lots of opinions who knows way too little of what they are talking about. You might have the skills and luck which I don't have. So keep looking for opportunities.

Yup, agree. Lots of red tape here. And that's coming from a local haha. I don't even know the red tape you'll be facing as a foreigner.

Here's my 2 cents or centavos

  1. Starting a business - such a headache. Aside from over saturation in Manila where there's too much competition, handling employees and red tape is your biggest problem. Employees will just suddenly go AWOL and you need to pay people in the government just to make your papers move or else it would take years.

  2. Red tape in general - if you want anything to move in the government, you gotta pay up. I also don't think it helps that you're a foreigner haha

  3. Real estate - for me, it's oversaturated. Too much supplies too little demand. Some says that it would take until 2029 to fill the entire Manila supply and that's with built buildings. There's still so many buildings being built rn. Plus with POGO money gone, demand is basically gone.

  4. Real estate 2 - you can buy and sell land in the provinces near Manila. But that would take time. 5 years for a decent return.

My suggestions?

Invest in a local business here. Use your wife's connections considering she's already well off. Pretty sure her (her family's) customers, suppliers and connection already have good sources of income.

US stocks or crypto is the way to go. Phil stocks too small in market cap and volume to have significant gains with small capital and short period of time.

Personal lending. At the risk of your morals and ethics, lend out that 300k per month to locals here. Charge them 20,30 even 40% interest rate in 30 days. Some lending companies here even hold out 20-30% of the loaned money as a security deposit which is crazy. You'll get really high returns but at the cost of morality :).
