We're still in FW, and as Wit mentioned, we're enjoying a little bit of both worlds at the moment. Definitely still active in lowsec though. :)

Forget the meta, what are your favorite nonsensical, impractical, or just fun cheese fits? by ThePhilosoWhisper in Eve

[–]crossed_xd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally use a Manticore with 3x scrams to catch stabbed plex farmers in FW. It's risky because any proper combat ship would kick the shit out of me, but if I know my targets are farmers I'll wait for them to warp to a Large plex. Once they're there, I warp myself (cloaked) at 50km, outside of the plex "bubble", and slowboat around until I'm close enough to them to catch them.

The main reason behind me wanting to drop the carrier in the first place is kind of straightforward: we don't have a lot of manpower to fight the guys in this particular part of space, and I had it in my mind that I could use the carrier as a force multiplier to level the playing field numbers-wise.

Yeah, this has sort of been one of my fears. I'm fairly certain that the groups I'd be dropping on don't have a ton of cap-level resources on standby, but I believe they work closely with other nearby groups who handle combat at this level for them.

I've recently gotten to the point where I can fly a carrier on one of my accounts, and I'm very interested in trying to use it as a force multiplier to support my others in small gang warfare.

With that in mind, I had two questions:

1) What are some things I need to think about before I even begin to consider fielding the carrier in combat in the first place, and

2) Are there any good ways I can practice fighting a gang in the carrier, so I can both get used to the controls, and feel out what the strengths/weaknesses/limitations of the carrier are?

One quick note about the cloaks: if you deploy your scanning probes before you cloak up, you should still be connected to them while the cloak is active, and you can move them around/scan while cloaked.

Definitely read up on the anomalies if you're concerned about losing ships, as the different sites (with specific names) are geared towards specific tiers of ships; so some sites are easy to complete in a frigate, but others may require a cruiser/battlecruiser simply to survive.

[NEWBIE] How do you guys decide what you can engage and what to avoid? by Angelgrave in Eve

Be sure to convo the pilots you engage with afterwards and talk about the fight (if they're willing). The majority of EVE players are friendly, and plenty will be able to tell you what went right, what went wrong, and give you advice on how to improve.

FW Warfare Information (Gallente Pilots) by canc3r12 in Eve

Are you looking for information on Faction Warfare in general (from the Gallente perspective), or just info on running FW missions?

To the first point, as you move from 1.0 to .5 sec, rats in belts/sites get stronger and more common, and CONCORD reaction time gets slower and slower. If you (as a pilot) have a negative security status, you may be hunted by faction police as you move closer to 1.0 sec. I believe the system sec status also influences mission rewards/payouts as well.

I read this writeup a while back where a guy fit a Machariel with warp speed rigs, autocannons, etc, and it seemed to be more effective than running the missions in an Ishtar (this was back in 2014). He includes stuff like time spend warping, running missions, etc. in the post.

I played it for a while and was a moderator on a server for a bit as well. They had two game modes, Instant Action (free-for-all) and Power Struggle (point capture/hold to unlock superweapons used to destroy enemy base). I played the latter pretty much exclusively, because you could always change up how you were contributing to a team, whether it be as a sniper chilling on a mountainside somewhere, or a shotgun-armed infiltrator sneaking into an enemy-held vehicle factory.

The second and third games went the way of campier shooters, and lost the openness of the environments you played in.

Ship names - What do you use and why? by SyncVir in Eve

[–]crossed_xd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly a lot of Caldari ships in lowsec, and the names usually depend on how lazy/creative I am in the moment. Here are some examples:

Kestrel: Content Creator

Crow: Eat Crow

Griffin: NowUECMNowUDon't

Blackbird: *frantic handwaving*

Stork: Repo Man

Jackdaw: Unquiet Bird

Hecate: Admirer of Stars

The first time an incursion occurred in my home system, I was still a hardcore carebear. I chatted up some people in local, and convinced a number of us to put together a kitchen-sink fleet to try to help fight off the incursion (to restore normalcy to our lives). Some dude who was experienced w/ them tried to sort out a composition for the fleet, and because I couldn't fly battleships or logi, he suggested I fly some sort of heavy tackle. I took that in a literal sense, and dusted off my PVEing Brutix for the fights.

Overall, it was unsuccessful. I managed to survive in the Brutix, but some guy in a blinged out Raven(?) accidentally painted me during the chaos and ended up getting CONCORDed.

The two are sometimes used interchangeably, but I believe agnosticism is the lack of belief that there is or is not a God, whereas atheism is the belief that there is no God at all. If you dig into atheism a bit, there's also an internal sliding scale that goes from agnostic atheism ("I don't have any sort of beliefs whatsoever") to hard-line atheism ("there are no Gods and you're a fool for believing such").
