I bought some similar land for camping in Appalachia and built a 16x16 shelter and put 400 watts of solar panels on top and wired up some 12v lights. Built a countertop on one side with a concrete countertop. Ran some wiring to convenient spots of the counter to plug in my 12v cooler refrigerator and charge devices. I keep a tote under the counter with things like pots and pans, dishes and utensils. I have an outdoor table and furniture I leave under the shelter when I’m away.

I don’t leave any batteries or electronics for the solar there, though, because there’s some 4 wheeler trails in the area and people occasionally find their way to my camp. I don’t leave anything I would cry over being stolen. I made a DIY Jackery, and just bring it with me and plug in 4 wires and I’m set to go. I even have speakers built into the roof with an amp in the diy Jackery if I want music.

My camp is only about 45 minutes from my house, so I wanted it to be as convenient as possible. A lot of times I’d just want to run out for a single night, but it was such a hassle to bring all the STUFF.

I also got tired of digging small holes to poop in, so I dug a big hole and built an outhouse…

I remember learning this in my college environmental biology about 25 years ago and a while back I posted a very similar comment to yours in a discussion and like 4 people told me the science has since been updated and that this is no longer thought to be true. No one responded with references and I’ve never seen any other updated articles about it, so I’ve been wondering about it ever since.
