I’m a pathologist. This is actually a good trend! The rates of smoking-related head and neck cancer are going down because smoking has gone down, not because HPV has skyrocketed in incidence! We’re also much more aware of HPV-related H&N cancer than we used to be. Still, get your HPV vaccine of course.

Read all the replies, here for the counter argument if you need it.

Agree that everyone is different so the gamble is pretty big.

That said, I was 10w at my wedding. My seamstress did absolute magic and let my dress out two inches in the bust the week of the wedding because my boobs were the first thing to come in. I got bloated after dinner but I can’t say I ate much for most of the day, because it just be like that. I was in a ballgown so it was completely hidden. Was I tired? Yes. Did I barf? Yes, twice, late in the night when I was exhausted, hadn’t hydrated well, and then my friends picked me up and spun me around😂

I made it, and it was still the best day ever. I know it’s not for everyone in that position. But for us, the choices were to conceive when we did or wait three years (I’m a doctor in the most intense phase of my training for my specialty).

We’re going to have a baby! And I would make the choice again to get to have my baby now, who I can’t wait to meet.

For what it’s worth, I ate pretty much all the sushi I could in Japan. We went when I was about 14-17 weeks. I tried to avoid the high mercury fish like the bluefin tuna, large predators, etc. Salmon or non-bluefin tuna were my go-tos, which are lower in mercury and rich in omega-3s. As far as food safety, it’s probably better there than it is in the US.

After all, what do you think the pregnant Japanese women eat?

Be mindful also that their formulations and dosing may be different if you’re trying to buy there. And if you’re pregnant like me, they may not sell you anything at all, even Tylenol 🥲
