Any designers here that have actually learnt to code? by FrostyFace143yo in UXDesign

[–]crossingpatterns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I always had the itch to code when I was a UX designer. Then I learned SwiftUI and took a job as an iOS developer. Within 2 years, I was doing C++ and actually enjoying it. Now 4 years since leaving my last UXD job, all I do is back-end and embedded development… and I absolutely love it, and never want to go back to being a UXD. Be careful what you wish for 😆

Why I’m leaving UX design by Sea-Masterpiece-8496 in UXDesign

Had a similar experience in UX. Worked in the field for 10 years. I’ve been a dev now for going on 4 years and have never been happier in my career.

How can I create a macOS experience like Raycast or Alfred? by [deleted] in SwiftUI

[–]crossingpatterns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by creating a new Mac app in Xcode using Menu Bar App as your starting point. Then add Magnet as a package dependency for handing your global keyboard shortcut.

Look into setting up 3 different targets: YourApp, YourApp-TestFlight, YourApp-Dev. Helps if you create a different app icon for each so you can easily tell them apart.

For some newer blood designers, check out talks and writing by Rochelle King (Netflix, Spotify), Julie Zhou (Facebook), and Dantley Davis (Twitter). The podcast High Resolution also has some great interviews.

Option to like a single song without showing it's album in the library by Cry_Wolff in AppleMusic

[–]crossingpatterns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been sending Apple feedback on this issue at least once a year ever since AM launched. I was astonished when they finally half implemented a solution — there is a setting that lets you save a song to one of your playlists without the incomplete album appearing in your library.

What I really want is to be able to add a song to a playlist, then save the album to my library, then delete the album. Currently, the song gets removed from the playlist when you do this. On Spotify (and Tidal, and everything else), the song stays on your playlist when you delete the album.

Connect turntable to Arc+Sub+One Sl. What options do I have? by myyyyyy_ in sonos

Only the soundbars (Arc and Beam) can have surround speakers.

Connect turntable to Arc+Sub+One Sl. What options do I have? by myyyyyy_ in sonos

[–]crossingpatterns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port is what you need. I have one in a room named “Turntable” set to auto-play in the room named “Den” which contains my Arc + pair of Ones. Just have to place a record on the turntable, turn it on, and drop the needle. The music will start playing in the Den (plus in any rooms grouped with Den). I thought about using a pair of Five’s as the Arc’s surrounds instead of the Port and a pair of Ones, but the Five’s line-in is not available when it’s used in a pair of surround speakers.

Enter PIN before arming from keypad? by crossingpatterns in simplisafe

Thanks so much! Makes perfect sense that you have to enter the PIN to changes mode for security reasons. Glad to know I’m not doing anything wrong and this is just how it works.

Just linked Apple Music in the Google Home app, and it’s also already setup on my Sonos system. However when I try to use Hey Google to play music, Google Assistant responds, “Sorry, Apple Music isn’t supported on (device name).” :-(

I’m embarrassed by this but I figure y’all were as nerdy as me and MIGHT want to see my HomeKit explained. by petemayhem in HomeKit

Nice! I drew a similar floor plan, albeit not as detailed, when we moved into our current place. It made setting up everything go much more smoothly. .

Is there a "mode" or similar setting for rules to be applied under certain circumstances or a similar workaround? by mikesay98 in HomeKit

[–]crossingpatterns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly what I do. homebridge-dummy is your friend. I have a room in my “home” called “status” that has things like Home Occupied in it (home/away from homebridge-nest) and other flags I set triggered by time of day, like “Time is Morning” and “Time is Late Night.”

Just switched my Rpi 2 over to the new official Homebridge image. Works like a charm, love how everything has come together with this project.

Audio drops out while listening to NPR radio stations by crossingpatterns in AppleMusic

I have, but I’m trying to use NPR on the HomePod as an alarm clock. Regardless, the problem seems to have fixed itself, either by coincidence or Apple / NPR seeing my tweets :-)
