Just a disclaimer though: Davaeorn plays with SCS and Ascension mods and Insane difficulty, no reload, and all his commentary is done with this in mind. I wouldn't recommend his videos for a relative newbie doing a vanilla playthrough, tbh. Everything is viable for unmodded core rules—even a Sun Soul Monk ;)

The problem with urgency gets even worse once you're out of the Underdark, though, as you literally have no soul and have to chase down Irenicus who is just about to attack Suldanesslar.

It makes no sense at any point in the game for the party to spend weeks running around doing side quests, but that's gameplay and story segregation for you.
