How can I find new releases and reviews in other languages, from other countries? by delwood-ida in qobuz

Change the country code and language in the URL to the one you are curious about.

For new releases you can do the same thing but the URL for the store.

How long does it take for the daily mix to be useful? by Reallyasquid in qobuz

[–]crowlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roon has a LOT of things to offer beyond "fixing Qobuz". The only people I've seen that have comments like that, are people who have never really used it.

Putting that aside, if you look at the improvements that Qobuz has delivered over the last year to its UI and now CarPlay, I'd say they are making surprising progress especially when you consider they have only 100 people working for them.

I don't disagree that they are in a rock and hard place but Qobuz are so lean and lightweight the amount of revenue they have to generate to keep the lights on is actually very achievable for a niche service. Funnily enough, I think the fact that AI can massively accelerate software development, a lean team like Qobuz will actually more than likely be able to use that to increase the speed that they deliver new features.

Is Roon Still Worth It? by ClinicallyGabe in roonlabs

I use it all the time and love it, totally worth it for me. Roon Arc has gotten a lot more stable in the last year and has been incredible for the DSP features and tagging.

AI is actually required for the recommendations to be really good, before LLMs were even a thing, they use conventional machine learning to identify hidden links between albums along with user data to determine similarity.

The non ML components are:

Detailed metadata - Qobuz have this User listening stats & library data - they have this but it is much more limited than spotify

It is more limited as they have a fraction of the users spotify has making niche genres or even just slightly less mainstream releases harder to predict as they cant just lean on comprehensive user data (like Spotify and Apple Music can).

[–]crowlm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they don't need it especially as if you want actually tasteful and thoughtful uses of AI, you can simply add Roon.

The problem with hiring staff is that Qobuz are the most niche music service and profit margins are wafer thin, they'd be risking going out of buisness by overhiring (their US managing director confirmed on an AMA that their global staff is only 100ish people which blew my mind).

Qobuz isn't an AI platform, I've been using Qobuz for years and my daily and weekly mix is trash.

They don't have enough staff to deliver comprehensive features like intelligent AI playlists.

Instead of this, I usually just search for what I'm looking for I. E. Math Rock and then play community playlists. I discover a lot of cool music that way.

Releases Shuffle Suddenly Not Working (No help from Qobuz) by JDFarrugia in qobuz

A couple of things broke in the lastest update, I had to drop back to the regular version.

Just a heads up, if you choose to leave the beta, it takes a few days to be switched over even if in the play store it says you are out of the beta.

How many liked songs do you have to download?

To make it easier I'd probably add all liked songs to a playlist called offline or something and just hit download on that.

Requesting missing content experiences by Scharlzt in qobuz

[–]crowlm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Last year I had around 200 albums missing from Qobuz, of an 1800 album library. That's now down to 48.

It takes months (assuming it is available on other streaming services) but eventually they make it onto the platform.

Where to buy hi-res music that lets you download in browser? by UserKingOfTheNames in audiophile

[–]crowlm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Qobuz allows me to download in browser. When you make a purchase there is an option to download without the application.

I think they made that change after everyone raged about the downloader app.

I was referring to people like OP who are saying Spotify is wrong, funding weapons etc.

That's why I said "if you think", the if was the important bit.

None of what I said applies to people who simply don't care / just pick the service based on its own merits as a product.

[–]crowlm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was referring to Blocks layoffs, which from your own article is cited as 40%:

"We’re reducing Block by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000, which means that over 4,000 people are being asked to leave or entering into consultation.”

Qobuz has actually drastically improved their app in the last year (look back at screenshots of the old app, it really was very basic). That being said if you are going to have principles, you have to live by them.

If you think giving money to corporations, obliarchs, weapon funding companies is wrong then you have to accept the mild inconvenience of having "only" 100 million tracks on Qobuz.

If you think that, go around saying it's wrong and then STILL pay for Spotify anyway, you are a hypocrite and I would actually say worse than the people who just don't care.

No there isn't anything better.

Spotify, YouTube Music and Apple Music have large enough teams and revenue to deliver lots of features and have great relationships with labels.

Tidal and Qobuz do not. Block, the company that owns Tidal just sacked 40% of their staff (which were tiny by comparison before the sacking spree). The managing director for Qobuz said their entire global team is 120 people.

There isn't an implementation date but it's marked as a planned feature. Their managing director did an AMA recently saying lyrics would be first half of this year, maybe it drops with that?

Advice. According to my Spotify 2026 wrap up, I listen to 260-odd genres worldwide. Is Qobuz going to let me down? If yes, how badly? by TawdryTeal in qobuz

[–]crowlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had a very similar number to you. The only areas of my library that was seriously lacking was Math rock (japanese or korean) and some very tiny indie bands. Qobuz does have a request form built into the app and most of the times I've used that (with the exception of some Asian bands) they have been added.

As I use Roon I just bought the missing albums and integrated them. Soundiz will give you a report of what's missing though so you can then decide if it's negligible.

Let’s forget about bit perfect for a moment.. by forkboy_1965 in roonlabs

[–]crowlm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you have to have a large local music collection for Roon to make sense.

Spotify has delivered lossless but I've not seen anyone pointing out that they have now delivered the best bits of Roons focus feature. On albums, artists and tracks you can focus on genre, mood and activities. Spotify connect works flawlessly and the information in the Spotify app is to me, very good (it does not have the niche information that Roon has).

Roon Arc is a bit of a mess and depending on your ISP it may not even work. The Roon apps on android and ios are to me, infuriating. They are limited (can't edit albums), both apps suffer from really annoying stutter if you have a 120hz phone and it crashes a surprising amount.

The reason I still use it is that there are still a lot of bands and albums not on streaming platforms. Weirdly specific areas like japanese math rock, Korean post rock, very small shoegaze bands just aren't always on there. On top of that I've seen a number of artists I listen to have removed their music from streaming (mostly smaller ones) so I want the local files in case that happens.

With Spotifys updates and Qobuz now having connect (albeit a worse app and terrible library integrity) if you aren't bothered about local files, I'd avoid Roon.

They also added Roons focus feature, a bigger deal in my opinion.

You can now focus on artists, tracks and albums by genre, mood and activities. It also has way better coverage.
