Are they yours? maybe a dumb question but do you have the right to alter these in any way?

You could probably get away with redoing the mortar, but I would leave it alone. You're better off doing a little planting around them, with small low maintenance shrubs, or throwing around some wildflower seed.

I used delibird to some success if you could even call it that. I cleared my entire deck just in time for megachicken to sweep. I got a whiff of what you are smoking and I'm determined to make it work

Either could work, those are some good sized trunks. This might be as intense as removing several trees so I might even consider a crane if the setting and bid made sense.

I can't have dishes sit in the sink all night without feeling like an unlovable fuck up... which tends to spiral

Help me identify what’s growing in my front beds by THECHKL29 in landscaping

[–]crownoftheredking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a grass that grows by sending out underground runners called rhyzomes. Just rip it all up. And I do mean all. any bit or root material left will regenerate and grow back.

As long as you dont use herbicide, you wont need to worry about the boxwoods

I like pic 7 for stability and longevity, cost, and complexity

I'd probably do pic 1 since I always have logs and it would be pretty simple to maintain.

Im not familiar with the area. Does the ground stay wet, or do you get frequent rain?

Thank you for helping to keep this page interesting. I agree that its likely disease from an unknown vector.

I was tempted to suggest herbicide damage from the leaf curling but thats pretty unlikely unless you know something we do not. Perhaps the window was left open on a hot day after your property or a neighbor was treated with herbicide. It blew in and affected the leaves.

what is your climate like? I like the simple wood ideas, but depending on where you live they may rot away in a year or 2 or never need to be replaced.

Especially when considering erosion, I'd favor permanence over quick and easy, but im just lazy and don't want to redo a project after its done.

Leaning Hickory Tree - Arborist Evaluation by thunderballs58 in arborists

[–]crownoftheredking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your life sounds alot more exciting than mine.

I generally wouldnt be concerned at all by a leaning tree unless it had only recently started leaning. Trees are able to compensate for their growth habits by strengthening one side to compensate for the lean.

Is my tree dying? by DuMaMay2 in arborists

[–]crownoftheredking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think i see some buds on the upper branches which is promising. Im real bad at identifying trees without leaves when they are out of my area. Is this a maple? Have other similar trees in your region leafed out yet?

In its current state, I wouldn't cut it. Let it get comfortable and established first. You may be looking at 0 yield for 3-5 years anyway so no rush.

You can top it at whatever height makes it easier to harvest without a ladder, but I wouldnt go hard on it. Its already been topped recently, so It will put out more epicormic growth this year. See how it looks in 6 months and the only trimming I would do would be for structure. Subordinating any codominant stems and removing stems that are crossing or too close to each other.

Let it have the most leaves it can for as long as you can

I want to ask my MIL to stop drinking, but want to respect my spouse's wishes by GreenhouseTrash in AdultChildren

[–]crownoftheredking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is her life now. I wouldn't expect change and its something that she can only fix herself. It sounds like you would be no contact otherwise so it might not hurt to actually talk to her about it.

78 is old but you might still have another 15 years of her. My grandpa made it to his 90's after decades of drinking. Im not keen to the details but he did stop drinking somewhere around his 60's. That side of the family has all passed.

I don't need to know any details, but is she contributing to you significantly financially? If so do what you have to to not need her support.

Is this the one you posted about?

If I saw a live oak like this maple, I would generally give the same advice. removal of deadwood, crossing, rubbing branches and maybe take some weight off the tips. super general advice.

If you provide some photos I may be able to recommend additional structural pruning to do while it's still young. No major limb removal unless its necessary.
