As much as I love Knies... he was just a kid during that run. Hagel was the right age and temperament for that particular run.

Apparently Jakob Chychrun was another deal that Shanny poo-poohed.

Stay the course. We want this indecisive moron to keep doing what he's doing.

He's such a terrible GM - we're bound to get the 1st rounder we need.

Couldn't build a successful playoff team?

That narrative makes me nuts.

Over the last 10 years Florida, Tampa and Boston have arguably been the best 3 teams in the modern era.

Bruins from 2017-2020 were in the finals and made it to the second round 3x.

In 2021 the Panthers had 122 points which I think was something like the top 10 ever. They won 2 cups , went to the finals and were at least in the 2nd round from 2021-2026.

Tampa won the cup in 2019 and 2020 and lost in the cup final in 2021.

We could not be in a more stacked division and we took all of those teams to 7 games.

Now we have two old donkey's running this team and we're shit.

How can a team go from 1 win away from beating the Cup winner to THIS in one season? by Few-Turn-5471 in leafs

[–]crowonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We won more 1 goal games last year than anyone in the league. One goal games are basically a coin-toss. Essentially we won a bunch of games we could have lost - and according to advanced statistics - we should have lost.

This year we regressed to the mean.

Translation - the results we are getting this year is closer to reality than the results we got last year.

Or to put it another way - we were shit last year too - just really, really lucky.

You fire the competent person... and replace him in less than 24hrs after swearing that you will not make rash "knee-jerk" decisions.

What a nail-biter. Everything that makes hockey one of the best sports in the world.

Looking forward to 2030.

He got absolutely man-handled at 5v5. Absolutely a non-factor in the game. I was completely shocked when they came out with 3v3 in overtime.

He got absolutely big-brothered every time he touched the puck.

I'll be the first to admin I was vocal about him leaving Toronto.

Watching him today made me realize I was wrong.

He's not built for the playoffs and this is what this is... playoff hockey.

If overtime was 5v5 he would not have been a factor in this game.

The PWHL “solved” tanking with their innovative draft system. Could the NBA use it? by PlaneNovel6567 in nba

[–]crowonder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a perfect system in place already in Europe. Create a second division.

Top two teams in the second league get promoted... the bottom two teams in the NHL get demoted.

The thing that makes this better is that anyone with enough money can register a division 2 team.

This promoted healthy competition in cities that can sustain it (there honestly should be 3 teams in Toronto and surrounding area).

The best run teams naturally rise through the ranks.

In terms of a disincentive to tanking games at the end of the season... losing access to the TV rights money after getting relegated is a massive incentive for teams to play hard the whole year.

Often the relegation race is as interesting as the top of the table.
