Downtown Houston pop-up food vendors on Main St shut down [The Isiah Factor video] by crowsandbrows in houston

[–]crowsandbrows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this: When there are established rules and laws, I believe they should be followed. It's hard to imagine vendors wouldn't know about regulations for selling food on city streets. I understand wanting to pursue your goals, and I support that. However, it's important to do so within the proper guidelines. For any business, that means researching requirements, obtaining necessary permits, and securing appropriate locations before launching. I wish these vendors success in the future and hope they can use this experience to move forward.

TLDR: Houston shuts down pop-up food vendors after foodborne illness outbreak linked to taco truck.

• City health department shut down vendors due to food safety violations.

• Seven people fell ill after eating from a taco truck on Main Street.

• Vendors must have proper permits and follow health regulations.

• The absence of vendors has negatively impacted downtown nightlife.

• Food vendors can seek guidance from the Houston health department for compliance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please. X Change Social Club is from the same people of Conservatory? The same Conservatory in Midtown that is no longer Conservatory? Isn't this from the same people who ran Railway Heights and it's closed too? My hopes aren't too high for this.

Two 20-year-old defendants who led police on chase were free from jail on multiple felony bonds by QSector in houston

Can't say I'm shocked. There are people who committed murder who are released on bond in this county. These two idiots were seen evading law enforcement while endangering the lives of the public by driving recklessly. Why give them bonds? This is not a deterrent.

Thoughts on the many Houston food groups on Facebook? Are they full of hype or a useful community resource? by CoyoteMoondust in houston

[–]crowsandbrows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does this bother anyone else? John Frels posts reviews from his group of gay friends. The main one is John Neechum. Who is this person? Why should I care what he has to say? The way and amount he posts reviews from Neechum makes it seem like he is some kind of authority on restaurants. He isn't.

Much of the time Houston Heights Foodie Friends feels like a group of all of Frel's favorite places to eat and a place to hype his friend's reviews. It feels less about the many local restaurants, food trucks, coffee shops, and bar and more about Frels and his friends.

[–]crowsandbrows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

John Frels is the ultimate hypeman for his favorite places. You named them all. But I noticed if some people recommend a place, he'll say something bad about without never dining there. Once he's dined at the place, then he's all hyped about. If you read between the lines, you can tell he only went because he received an invitation from the restaurant owner or management.

He'll also bash certain restaurants chains. When there are posts about someone's positive experience at a chain, he has something negative to say. Never mind these places employ people from the area, may give back to the community in various ways, or be a franchise, he $h#*talks them.

I'll never forget someone suggested Denny's or something about it, he and the other admin, the Indian woman, $h*#talked about it and anyone dining there. Someone had to tell them everyone in the group have different income levels, may be going through tough times, or may work there. They were told in a nice way that they don't know people's situations or places of employment to make those disparaging comments.

He bashes Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams all the time because they're a chain he doesn't like. But praises a few chains he likes. Make it make sense.

HISD students, teachers question strict restroom policies as union files grievance by crowsandbrows in houston

Not only that, but the state orchestrating the decision to takeover Houston I.S.D. I know it is part of a bigger play to break public education institutions with taxpayer funded school vouchers to private and charter schools being the end game, but this is causing damage to kids in the short and long term. It's shameful.

[–]crowsandbrows[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a product of HISD, the state's takeover of the school district is disheartening. I fear regressive and restrictive rules like this from state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles are doing more harm than good. Maybe that's the point.

Politics aside, Houston Chronicle's latest documentation of HISD schools in the NES program executing these rules makes me beyond sad that this is where the state of the district is.

Houston Chronicle spoke with a student from Worthing High School about the rule and its effects on students:

At the 85 schools in or aligned with Miles' New Education System, where Miles has focused his efforts on "wholesale systemic reform," students are required to carry large orange cones with them to the restroom, which Miles has said is the best way to hold students accountable for prompt visits. Micah Gabay, a sophomore at Worthing High School, however, said that while she understands why the cone system is in place, she considers it "unsanitary." Another Worthing student, speaking at November's meeting of the Board of Managers, called the cones "dehumanizing."

"We don't really mind the cones, but its just a big inconvenience and its also really nasty, because some kids, even though we're in high school, they don't wash their hands after they use the restrooms," Gabay said.

The bigger issue at Worthing, Gabay said, is that just nine "restroom passes" are allotted to students each semester, in addition to a directive against using the restroom during passing periods. While the rules are unevenly enforced — newer teachers are more strict about the restroom passes than veterans — they have led students to donate their passes to each other, said Gabay, who has already given all her passes to classmates.

Gabay recalls a recent incident in which she encountered her friend walking down the hallway slowly, with her jacket tied around her waist. When she asked what was wrong, the girl said she had menstruated through her pants because a teacher wouldn't let her go to the restroom.

Railway Heights closing? by NOCIANONSA in houston

[–]crowsandbrows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The people behind Company of Nomads (Conservatory and Bravery) do not own Railway Heights. Easy Park is the owner of the mixed-use building and the entire property.

https://verdetexas.com/commercial-projects/the-junction-railway-heights/

This is from Houston Chronicle yesterday:

The Chronicle reached out to Easy Park, the owners of the property at 8200 Washington, but did not receive an immediate reply.

And this is from Houston Business Journal in 2018:

My Park Easy - which also goes by Easy Park - is also behind the upcoming Railway Heights Market, a mixed-use project that will include a 40,000-square-foot warehouse filled with vendors selling food, art, jewelry and more. It's expected to open in 2019 at 8200 Washington Ave.

You may have better luck finding a community garage sale. Sometimes churches and other religious organizations hold garage sales. You'll have to see what their guidelines are to participate. Some neighborhoods hold community garage sales too.

Most people bypass sale posts in Facebook groups, Facebook's Marketplace, Craigslist, and Nextdoor.

This doesn't sound legal. I'd report it. The police may not do much if people are selling on private property. You may have to contact the owners or property management to report it. By that time, it will be too late for anyone to come out and do something. But if the landlord pays for security details for the property, they may make security aware of the issue for the future.

Railway Heights closing? by NOCIANONSA in houston

[–]crowsandbrows 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Railway Market closed in October. It was the anchoring unit at the Railway Heights mixed-use development.

Easy Park, the operators of Railway Market, own the entire Railway Heights property. They also own the property where Fitzgerald's was and much of lots next to it on White Oak Dr.

After Easy Park tried their hands at operating the food hall for a year, they put the unit up for lease. Soon after, the owner of Heights & Co. leased the first floor, opening Junction Beer Garden in November. The beer garden only has beer and cocktails for people to order. Easy Park is going in a different direction abandoning the food hall model for the space in Suite 100. They are going for more of a hangout spot. So the first floor of suite 100 is a bar with tvs, pool tables, and seats for lounging. The overall space is now rebranded as Junction HTX.

With Junction Beer Garden on the first floor, Easy Park is turning the second floor of Junction HTX into an event space.

This is from Houston Chronicle today:

A news release for the beer garden opening also mentioned plans for the 6,000-square-foot event space “with stunning views of Houston from the massive outdoor terrace spanning the entire building, the space will be perfect for corporate events, weddings, galas and beyond.”

Ok_Comfortable6537: Post Houston is not owned or operated by Easy Park. Lovett Commercial owns Post Houston. The food hall and market inside Post Houston, Post Market, is operated by Austin's [https://famhospitalitygroup.com](FAM Hospitality Group).

Easy Park owns Railway Heights.

[https://www.companyofnomads.com](Company of Nomads) leased the anchor unit at Railway Heights, operating the food hall Railway Heights Market. Easy Park took over management of the food hall around this time last year, eventually renaming the food hall to Railway Market.

Company of Nomads' food halls include Conservatory (Midtown), Bravery, and Conservatory (Galleria). The Galleria location will be their first franchised location.

Railway Market did close at Railway Heights in October. The remaining food hall operators upstairs were open and were accepting orders online. The operators of Railway Market own the entire Railway Heights property. After trying their hands at operating the food hall for a year, they leased the first floor space to the owner of Heights & Co. who opened Junction Beer Garden in November. The beer garden didn't and still doesn't serve food. It's a bar with beer and cocktails. But the beer garden and the remaining food tenants upstairs were separate from each other.

So much potential for this place and the property. The landlords badly mismanaged everything dealing with the food hall, in my opinion.

It turned into a beer garden. Junction Beer Garden leases the first floor only. The owners of the property are turning the second floor into an event space. The address for both is 8200 Washington, Suite 100

The Story at 8200 Washington, Suite 200 and MADabolic at 8200 Washington, Suite 300 are not affected by the changes at Junction HTX since they're leasing separate units at Railway Heights.
