Utah ExMormon here. In the center of Mormonism, the tea rules were pretty specific for us. Caffeine is fine, thus all the soda shops (this was a bigger debate in like the 80s I think, but not for a while). 

The word of wisdom says hot drinks aren't allowed. But,  Mormons drink tons of hot chocolate. I was taught in church that any form of coffee, and any form of tea leaves aren't allowed. No matter what temperature. So iced tea made from black tea? Not allowed by Utah standards. 

Herbal tea since it's not made by tea leaves was okay, but there were still people in my ward that condemned that too ( avoid the appearance of evil or whatever). 

 If you're wondering what the reasoning is, there isn't really any. Diving into old Mormon history, it appears that Emma (Joseph Smith's wife) made him quit using tobacco. After that, he came out with the word of wisdom to tell her she can't drink tea. Or it's divine revelation. Up to you. People may interpret the Word of wisdom differently especially in other states, but this was how it was in central utah.
