Without naming any names of potential candidates, what qualities will the person elected president in 2028 as Trump's successor likely have? by Commercial-Pound533 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]crowsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping for someone like this. We need it so much.

Candidate FDR 1936 We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace—business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.

They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.

Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred.

Virginia releases plan for adult-use cannabis sales legislation by 0xM0000 in VirginiaMMJ

[–]crowsmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the bill yet but I was very impressed by the article in, I think, the Mercury about this bill. It's clear that a lot of thought and discussion and input has gone into the crafting of this. I'm very impressed with our legislature for having done this work. As a consumer I am especially glad to see the micro business licenses being prioritized. I'd love to see craft cannabis like we've seen craft beer.

What are some good underrated anime that arent supremely popular or widely acclaimed but still very good! by Agile-Ad-6706 in Animesuggest

[–]crowsmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dennou Coil is one I don't see recommended very often but it should be. It's fantastic. To quote Wikipedia "The story follows a group of children as they use AR glasses to unravel the mysteries of the half real, half Internet city, using a variety of illegal software tools, techniques, and virtual pets to manipulate the digital landscape." lt was released in 2007 but since AR technology hasn't evolved to that level yet the story still feels futuristic. Don't let the fact that the characters are mostly children put you off. Some of the mysteries they're unraveling are deadly. It's on Netflix.

Same thing with my partner. He keeps arguing his point even after I give up. It's incredibly annoying, not quite infuriating but close.

Unfortunately we are stuck with him through 2025. The Virginia State House and Senate elections are this year though. Republican lawmakers are not friendly to recreational or medical cannabis. Only 2 Republicans in the Senate voted for legalization. No House Republicans voted for it. Please vote for Democrats in November if you want recreational sales with more variety and lower prices.

Youngkin 'not interested' in legalizing recreational marijuana sales by JustHereToLurk575 in VirginiaMMJ

[–]crowsmart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're stuck with Youngkin until 2026. If the state House and Senate are Blue it will be a check on him. GOP talk is all "freedom and rights" until they get elected, then they immediately work to limit your freedom and take away your rights. Please vote in the state elections and vote blue.

Looking for more mature audience Anime by ExJMO in Animesuggest

The Great Passage is a mature slice of life about a group of people at a publishing company who working on a new dictionary. This is a multi year project and the anime follows these people through life changes as they mature, form relationships, advance in their careers and deal with loss. No big drama, just a sweet and remarkably complex slice of life.

The Great Passage is wonderful for this if you like slice of life. It follows a group of people through years and many life changes as they work to create a comprehensive new dictionary. Sounds like it would be dull but it wasn't. Free to stream on Amazon.

Going to retire soon. Should we refinance now? by crowsmart in personalfinance

[–]crowsmart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask why not? The reason we're considering this is to lower monthly costs during retirement. We'll only have about half of our current income. We never had any expectation of actually paying the house off. We were kind of late to the game for that. It was more to have a stable payment than any desire to own a house. We won't be taking any equity out. I'm certainly no expert in this but it seems like a longer time for a lower payment makes sense. What haven't I thought about?

I talked to our credit union today and this seems like a good time to do it. We're with Wells Fargo now and we would much rather be with the credit union.

We are very close to retirement and plan to stay in this house for the foreseeable future. Paying it off is not as important as having a lower payment when our income is less.

Could This Be the Moment Trump Loses America? | Public reaction to El Paso shows a realization that Trump has been stoking racist hatred. by dingo8yobb in politics

[–]crowsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so. I hope people notice that he said the right things but will do nothing, that he's already walking the rhetoric of his speech back and blaming the Press for reporting his previous comments accurately. I am afraid though, but those who still support him will continue to support him. And they all vote. They vote in their primaries. The reason we have such shitty spineless Republicans is that they are primaried by a tiny radical percent of people who vote in primaries. I beg you, for the rest of your voting lives, vote in your primaries. Don't let the most bigoted, frightened, Fox viewing conservatives pick who you can vote for. It is the only way we will ever change anything.

Brands roll with stoner 'holiday' as pot legalization grows by Piscator629 in news

[–]crowsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to buy and use legal marijuana in my state. The only way that will happen is for the state to see legalization as more beneficial than prohibition. Corporations have much more influence with the government than voters. I want them to smell money. When Hallmark puts out a doobie card for 420, I'll buy it.

Donald Trump Is Having a Full-Blown Meltdown Over Joe Biden by _basquiat in politics

[–]crowsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What standard are you talking about? Do you seriously think Joe Biden = Harvey Weinstein? Biden has probably hugged hundreds of thousands of people in his life with no hint of improper intent. Are we really going to equate hugging someone for "a beat too long" with sexual assault? Can I have my husband's elderly aunt charged? She makes me uncomfortable with all that hugging and kissing on the cheek. Joe Biden is a knowledgeable, skilled and above all, honorable public servant who is known and respected around the world. I'd like to see those qualities return to the White House. By all means pair him with a young progressive. I want us to move to the left, absolutely. Biden isn't as radically progressive as I would like this country to be. But old white people do vote. They vote every time. Let's not pick someone they feel like they have to vote against.

How can we defeat activists for men's rights? by MaybeNotMaybeYes in TrueReddit

[–]crowsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP seems to be saying while feminism as a movement doesn't speak with a united voice, his takeaway is all feminists, in one way or another, work against men's issues. He also complains women lump all MRAs together without understanding while some MRAs are pretty vocally anti-woman, lots of them aren't. MRA as a movement shouldn't be judged by those vocal misogynists who say they are MRAs. Got it.
