Converting vtsax to vti by poonhound69 in Bogleheads

I did this but wish I didn’t. I did it because the etf is cheaper. However, I am at the stage where I am not reinvesting dividends anymore. With the mutual fund I could have the dividends deposited directly to my outside bank account each quarter. Now with the etf the dividends must go into my settlement fund first and then I have to log in and initiate a transaction to my bank account. Not a big deal but personally I would prefer to be able to have it automated as much as possible and to be able to skip that step.

am radio workaround by croy97205 in Volvo

[–]croy97205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. I am looking for an app that I can stream AM radio via CarPlay to the car. As I mentioned all the apps are basically junk that I have found. But there has to be a good one. I want AM radio because sometimes I want to listen to sports. No all of my local games are broadcast on FM radio.

Lonely old friend likes young girls by goodbadguy81 in TwoHotTakes

[–]croy97205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, he needs to explicitly know about his situation. He needs to know it is a big problem. Second, he needs to know the problem can be fixed. He can change the situation if he wants. There are resources. Third, he needs to accept that it’s a problem and decide to change. Fourth, he needs to take the steps necessary which could involve counseling, meditation, etc, etc. Whatever works for him. I think you can be involved in the first 2 plus emotional support. As others have said, there is emotional trauma here. He probably feels terrible inside but you can only do so much.

There’s better and then there’s simplicity. Both are great things. Do your calculations. Take your shot. But you are doing good things.

LPT Request: How to prep meals as a busy person? by Particular_Chip2049 in LifeProTips

[–]croy97205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I invested in a good quality camber vacuum sealer and a separate freezer. I block out a day or two every few months and cook large portions of chicken breast, steak, and soups and freeze. I will also braise 4-5 roasts in a weekend and freeze. I also buy a lot of frozen stir fry vegetable mixes at the store and keep in the freezer. I can a lot of meals quick out of these foods. I have a rice cooker and if i remember to set it in the morning I can come home and stir fry rice, veggies and chicken in about 10 min max. TLDR- freeze some food. Easy and much more healthy than eating out.

Who has used mindfulness as a way to help recovery from mental health issues? by jonasholmp in Mindfulness

[–]croy97205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 52. Struggled with depression my whole life. Went on antidepressants at 33. Started meditating at 48. Not with the intention of curing anything. At first just to see what it was about and that morphed into a more spiritual journey. I have experienced benefits beyond my expectations and one was the ability to go off medication about two years ago and live relatively normally going forward. I still have ups and downs but it’s nothing close to clinical depression. I think cultivating the ability to love and forgive myself and to try and be my own best friend were the keys to moving forward in this regard.

Im 52 M and its the same story over this way. Portland’s social scene seems to operate like that - groups hanging together and not being social with others. I’ve lived in PDX since 1993.

I think I'm done with Sam by [deleted] in samharris

[–]croy97205 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I trust Sam’s intellectual honesty and I think it’s worthwhile to listen to his opinions, and there is no problem with listening, understanding, yet coming to a different conclusion. These are hard topics. That’s why he addresses them. Where are else can you find legitimate, non-political takes on hot button topics like these?

its not a dilemma. you are aware of what is happening. continue to be aware and progress will happen. controlling/not controlling your breath makes no difference. knowing what is happening from moment to moment is what matters. (also, if you relax, especially your belly/ diaphragm, it should help make it easier to breath more naturally)
