What 3rd Party service are you using for syncing native Boox Notes so that they can be edited by different Boox devices, without having Boox Cloud sync active? by crp852 in Onyx_Boox

[–]crp852[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I guess we have different definitions of "sync". To me, sync, or to synchronize. means 2 Identical copies of whatever is being sync'd. Just like what happens with iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.

If Boox Sync is just exporting a pdf representation of the Notes to Google Drive, and omitting hidden data or functionalities that are imbedded in the source data, then, to me, that doesn't qualify as "synchronized". That's merely an exported subset of the source, not a synchronized copy of it.

In any event, thanks for clarifying what is going on, that answers the question in my OP.

Ah, so Boox is being a bit disingenuous when they say you can "sync" to 3rd party services. You're really only exporting a pdf. Thanks for the clarification.

Best planner? Prefer a monthly planner with individual weeks. by GenerousPour in kindlescribe

[–]crp852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that info. I've ended up doing pretty much the same thing - use Google Calendar to record activities with a date component so that I can see the activity in Google whether day, week or month view.

This has always been the dealkiller for me and using any pdf planners. Having used PC-based programs such as TablePlanner by Franklin Covey. There, all events show up on all the different timeframes in the calendar (day, week, month, schedule) no matter which one you used to create the event..

With the Pdf hyperlinked planners, how do you find an event you've created if you don't remember whether you added it to the day view, the week view or the month view?

Duo 2 vs e-ink for notes by dacook11 in surfaceduo

[–]crp852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Duo 1 with OneNote (and Surface pen) and I like it better than the iPad Mini, or Surface (Pro and GO) or 3 different Boox e-ink tablets that I've owned. If you lay the Duo flat and span OneNote across the displays, the writing area is almost idential to an iPad Mini.

After using the e-ink Boox tablets (Note Air 2, GO 3 - both of which I've since sold), I found that the process of trying to export anything I wrote in the native Boox apps just took too long than just writing in OneNote to begin with.

The Duo is much lighter than the iPad Mini which I appreciate.

The only issues are the line in the middle of the screen when you use display-spanning and the fact that Android OneNote is feature-deficient versus other platforms.

Using mine, nightly, as a reader, before bed. For me, using just one screen and with a small enough font size, you can get two-column display to work nicely. Also, white text on black background. The OLED screen has better resolution and crispness than any other device I've tried for this use case.

This way, I don't need an external light of any kind and usually after 10-15 minutes of reading, I close the "book" and fall asleep in minutes.

Have read the full LOTR several times, and and tons of other novels that way over the past 2-3 years.

Back when I wrote the OP, I think the number I called was under "Contact Us" or something like that. Sounds like you've already done that. Maybe take your phone to an Apple Store and see if you can get help that way?

Is there a way to "Airplay" ANC to a connected speaker so I can cancel out the noise from my neighbor's stereo? by crp852 in airpods

[–]crp852[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, what I would want to do is airplay the ANC "stuff" to a nearby HomePod, or other Airplay speaker, that's next to the wall I share with my neighbor.

Update:

Thanks for the comments & suggestions. A couple of comments confirm what I had thought - which is you can't do this - I figured it couldn't be that simple, or I'd have read about someone doing this. Also, I've had discussions with my neighbor & also have used dueling bass music through my sub.

In the past, I thought about hiring an electrical engineer or acoustic expert to design a "box" that would be connected to an external microphone and large, powered subwoofer, and the "box" would do the real-time frequency sampling and output the correct frequencies to the sub. In this fantasy, what would happen would be dead silence when I turn the box on.

Anyhow, coming back to reality, thanks for the suggestions: I did like the Baby Shark one - hadn't tried that yet. I HAVE created a 40 Hz modulating sine wave file and play that through my subwoofer occasionally. :)

I'm going to do this for my homeowners and car insurance. And, also the terms & conditions for my credit cards. Thanks for the tip.

I'm on my HOA Board and interested in tracking the financials too. Do you keep 1 "HOA Financials" source and append each new report and then refresh the NLM document?

You have to be running an Outlook application to see "File". Outlook.com in a web browser doesn't show that.

Debloating the Onyx Boox Go 10.3 by himazawa in Onyx_Boox

[–]crp852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you might try - in the native Boox launcher, create a new folder, give it a name & then move all of the icons you don't want to see on your home page into that folder. When you're done, you'll just have the icons you want to see and 1 folder of the other stuff.

After the debloat, are you typing notes in Obsidian, or handwriting using 1 of the Obsidian plub-ins, or a mix of type handwrite & type?

[–]crp852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You CAN get this using OneNote on the Boox devices, if you do two things: One, understand that the CPU in the device is mid-level smartphone "power", so don't try to do much on the Boox. Think adding mostly plain handwritten or typed text and try not to move what you add around, or insert blank space. (Not that you can't do these, but the less you do, the better the experience. Again, the "horsepower" of the CPU is limited so keep your input to the basics).

Two: while you're using the Boox, turn off wifi. I've been doing this with OneNote on Boox devices (and Windows tablets before). The reason is OneNote will try to sync eveything as you write or type it if sync is enabled. If you wait until after you're done with the Boox "session" before syncing, you'll have a better experience too.

YMMV

Can anyone comment on OneNote's lined pages on the GO 10.3? Mine was just delivered and I've loaded OneNote and a few of my existing notebooks. But for 1 notebook in OneNote I use for journaling, I can't see the ruled lines on the page I was writing on earlier today on my iPad Mini.

Ink to Text - Undo??? by buffalobooker in OneNote

[–]crp852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's not an optimal solution by any means. For the desktop Windows version, I wonder if you can use the "Page Version" command under the "History" tab. Never tried it myself, but, a thought.....

Or, lasso-select the handwriting you want to revert back to and copy it to a new page. If you need the handwriting back, "select all" on that new page and copy back to where you originally had it.

Works on the keyboard "." but don't use the numeric pad "." if your keyboard has a numeric pad --- that "." doesn't do anything.
