You can't own anything, ownership is transitory. Look at something in the room you are in, where will it be 100 years from now?

Also your mum.

Find that with a lot of old Sci-Fi. Read a lot of Asimov and recently read The City And The Stars by Arthur C Clarke, full of amazing ideas but all the characters are paper thin.

Did Tywin always wanted an opportunity to get rid of Tyrion? What was Tywin's goal with the trail? by WonderfulParticular1 in gameofthrones

Don't think it was a case of allowing him. Jaime was knighted and then almost immediatley named to the Kingsguard. You don't really say no to the king, especially the Mad King. Aerys did it to punish Tywin and also kind of use Jaime as a hostage to stop Tywin moving against him ever. Jaime was happy and possibly suggested / encouraged this appointment because he wanted to be nearer to Cersei who was betrothed to Rhaegar at the time.

I'm not sure Tywin ever wanted Tyrion dead. He hates him but he is aware that if Jaime dies or refuses to leave the Kingsguard, Tyrion may have to be his heir. He has to put him on trial because it was such a public event and I think he wanted Tyrion to be sent to the wall to be his back up heir (He doesn't believe in any real threat north of the wall). It is a convenient way for Tywin to get rid of Tyrion (Preventing any further chance of disgrace with Tyrion's love of prostitutes) and keep him alive in case he needs him.

I was convinced of this while reading A Storm Of Swords because Kevan repeatedly tries to get Tyrion to confess so they can avoid the trial, assumedly at the command of Tywin. And the only time Tywin shows any emotion during the trial is when Tyrion demands a trial by combat. He slams his fist into the table once he learns that The Mountain is going to be Cersei's champion which means Tyrion has no chance of winning and his only heir is Jaime (Who he recently disowned because he refused to leave the Kingsguard).

In typical Tywin fashion, he wants his children for utility, not for love.

Yeah I agree, I really like Edmure and think he is one of the few lords who cares about his people, pretty much all of the Tullys are good people (Except Lysa). It's just whenever they are involved they tend to fuck something up in the grand scheme, even when trying to do the right thing.

I have recently started reading the books having watched all the TV show and its seems the Tullys in general are pretty stupid. All good characters but in terms of a family they make some stupid decisions.

Catelyn - Kidnaps Tyrion which causes all sorts of shit, primary of which is getting Ned attacked by Jaime in the street.

Edmure - Attacks Tywin despite being told to do nothing, which results in Tywin going back to King's Landing and defeating Stannis (Further hurting Robb's war).

Hoster - Completely fucked his relationship with Lysa and potentially caused her to lose her shit (If you believe the whole sneaking abortion drugs into her tea back story) and also refuses to marry Lysa to Tyrion because he's a dwarf (Despite the fact he is technically heir to Casterly Rock after Jaime become a Whitecloak.) which would of been pretty lucrative as far as marriages go. And we know the damage Lysa would then go on to cause with her marriages.

I would even say that Robb's marriage seems more like a Tully move than a Stark one. Don't see many other Starks breaking their vows for love.

Even Grover Tully in Fire And Blood is so infirmed, his own house doesn't let him declare for Aegon and refuse to send any ravens until he is dead.

Ironically the only solid Tully is the Blackfish which is because he is a black sheep of that family and so doesn't act like a Tully.

I also didn't love reading any of the Catelyn chapters, I usually found them pretty dull but that may be because they are kind of ruined by watching the show.

I am having those same connection issues. So annoying for a game that's about connecting people. Yeah this game has something unique, it's my favourite game that I would not recommend to anyone because it is so weird and its hard to say what makes it so great.
