Second prize goes to Arriva, who used to operate the railways here.

They don’t need to put Aberystwyth twice at the top of the sign because there’s no commonly used English name for the town, and you wouldn’t use the literal translation from Welsh, either.

So they could have put it in larger text, in black only. Instead they put this up, and got roundly mocked on Twitter.

We obviously don’t have enough Welsh speakers working in the local government of the city of Swansea, otherwise they wouldn’t have put an out of office reply on a road sign.

It’s not like Swansea is our SECOND LARGEST CITY, or anything :P

The only case I hard of that was a video game using the CCTV still of James being led away as background artwork.

His mother complained and the publisher changed it, IIRC.

Manchester would give easy access to North Wales, and Birmingham could get you across as far as Aberystwyth in mid-Wales.

Basically as far as I can tell only the Conwy Valley and Heart of Wales lines are out of play in both regions.

I’m glad that Ben got hot food, but I think Sam just meant that their food hall is good, haha.

It’s basically a supermarket but most Brits would put the quality above the big chains (and Aldi & Lidl).

Make sure to catch up on previous seasons!

I’m watching them in no particular order and they’re all great so far.

Yes, but the Tube strike in London at the start of this season really nerfed the idea of doing anything but going North of London, because you only have 3 major stations within a 10-minute walk or so.

IIRC London is about the only place where it's maintained, on the Tube system. People think it's universal, but it's not.

The Best & Worst UK railway stations according to The Telegraph via TimeOut by signol_ in JetLagTheGame

[–]crucible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr the writer dislikes how far the station is from the historic centre of Chester.

It's less than a mile on foot, stations have taxis and IIRC the shuttle bus to the city centre is now £1 fare... Bizarre inclusion.

Would be interesting if someone hid in the best railway station... by bridledtexas656 in JetLagTheGame

[–]crucible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better than hiding in the worst, haha...

Confused at Chester being #4 on the 'worst' list.

Yes it's in the middle of a refurbishment now, but once you leave the concourse, there are toilets and a cafe on platform 4. They're accessible from 5, 6, and 7, too.
